Weiss entered the train cart, being met with a series of cells. Their walls consisted of what looked to be a shield of plasma, with multiple criminals behind them: white fang, bandits, even petty criminals.
As she walked cell by cell, she came across who she was looking for: Mercury black. Unfortunately, he was currently strapped to an interrogation chair, a clone with what looked to be a cloak wrapped around him, and a pair of shock troopers by his side.
"I will ask you again, Mr black" the clone said in a stoic tone. "who was your overseer. Who ordered the attack on Vale?"
"I told you, bucket head, I don't know!" mercury replied, frustrated. "I never actually met them save for video calls. All in-person conversations were done through cinder, and she's currently dead."
The cloaked commander slowly rose from his seat before turning around, causing weiss to hide behind the wall. The commander then talked to his shock troopers.
"get the info out of him. Do what you have to..."
With that, the commander left, opening the plasma shield and giving weiss the opportunity to slip past. However, when she managed to get past the shield, she found what was going on.
As she entered, she saw the shock troopers approach mercury, activating their shock batons.
"time to do what we should have done a week ago." one of them stated.
"no cameras to protect you now." the other told mercury.
They then began to ruthlessly beat mercury, clearly intent on making him suffer. Every strike of the electrified weapons might as well have been stabbing a fork in an electrical socket
Weiss, panicking and worried that her way onto the space station was at stake, pulled out her weapon and opened fire on the guards. The two of them almost instantly dropped dead upon being shot, falling to the floor and dropping their shock batons.
Weiss rushed over the mercury to check his condition. He was clearly hurt, but he was still breathing, so weiss let out a sigh of relief.
"you're mercury black, correct." she asked
"the one and only." Mercury replied. "but why would a schnee need my help."
"I need someone who can find their way through kuchinasi" the heiress told him, going over to grab his guns from the weapon holders and handing them over to him. "if I get you off this train, will you help me with that?"
Mercury seemed to contemplate it for a minute before grabbing his guns.
"sure." he said. "but before we leave, I have something to do."
He then walked over to another cell, one that contained a man who seemed to be a scorpion faunus with a deranged look, bound in a straightjacket. Aiming his gun, he shot the controls to the door, thus deactivating the plasma shield.
"oh, mercury!" the scorpion faunus exclaimed, cackling. "I knew you'd come back for me, buddy!"
Mercury chuckled, seemingly grabbing the man's arms in an attempt to open the straightjacket... Only to aim is gun at the man's head and open fire, instantly killing him.
"not really, buddy" he said.
Weiss was, obviously, taken aback by this.
"w-why the hell did you do that!?" she exclaimed, having never met the scorpion faunus before then.
"that man was a legitimate psychopath!" Mercury told the heiress. "if I didn't kill him, atlas would have executed him for war crimes. The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, Princess! Not everything goes the way it should. Now, I think we've overstayed out welcome, and you said you're getting me off this train. So if you don't mind, we should be going."
Weiss, fully aware that there wasn't a point in arguing, decided it was time to leave. She lead mercury through the train. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be long until they were ambushed by shock troopers once again.
Making a fighting retreat, the pair eventually came across a pair of steel doors leading outside. Opening it with some difficulties, the two discovered that the train had long since exited the tunnel, and were a few minutes away from reaching the coast. Fortunately, they were right next to a vast forest.
"do you trust me?" weiss asked the grey-haired criminal.
"to be honest, no!" mercury replied.
"either way, jump!"
Weiss then dived off the train. Mercury, panicking and worried about being captured again, jumped behind her. The pair rolled down the side of a hill, falling into the forests.
The clone troopers looked out the train, slightly stunned, until commander Faie entered the room.
"sir, black escaped alongside one of the intruders." a shock trooper told the Commander. "they also appear to have killed another prisoner named tyrian callows. should we send a squad to persue them?"
"don't bother." Faie ordered. "we're almost to the coast. Focus on making sure the other prisoners are secure. I'm sure we'll be seeing them around sometime soon..."
--
Meanwhile, Mercury and weiss exited the forest as the train finished passing them, dusting off their clothes.
"well then." mercury stated. "the trip to kuchinasi will be a few days. But I'm not sure I'm going to be able to show my face around any major transports."
"i can arrange a bullhead to deliver us to the city." weiss replied.
"if you don't mind me asking. When someone wants to go to kuchinasi, it's usually because they want to meet with someone. So, who's the guy you want to meet?"
Weiss hesitated for a few moments, before giving him the answer.
"have you heard of a man named roman torchwick?..."
(ps: at the time of releasing this chapter, I will be in the Netherlands on holiday with my family, meaning new chapters will be either slow to release or non-existent. Please be patient. Once I returned home, I will continue to make new chapters at the usual pace. See you soon...)
