A squad of clone troopers moves through the vacuan desert, accompanied by a pair of speeders and a saber-class fighter tank.
The troopers had been deployed to vacuo to help bolster the efforts of huntsmen in bringing order to the region. They had spent the past week and a half travelling across the kingdom, fighting warlords and hunting the few remaining bandit tribes. In particular, they had come into heavy conflict with the league of bones, a coalition of warlords in the kingdom's northern deserts.
However, more and more often, the troopers of this squad, and many others in vacuo for that matter, were coming across strange occurrences. Entire bands of league raiders were found massacred in the vast deserts, with not a single spent dust bullet casing in sight. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that all the raiders were killed with blaster bolts, and a few had scars from what looked to be vibro-knives. However, no clone squad in vacuo had reported ever seeing them.
It wasn't until an operation where this particular squad was ordered to scout a small settlement which was being used by the league as a slave camp
that they discovered what was going on. When they arrived at the destination, they found the settlement practically raised to the ground, and the raiders were seemingly slaughtered. When they went to investigate, the squad found a symbol only one of them, a trooper from the 332nd company, recognised: it was grafitti of the skull of a mythosaur: a symbol of the mandolorians. But this one was different. It was simpler, and was much less threatening than the logo used by the deathwatch during the clone wars.
Even still, the trooper was aware of how dangerous mandalorians were. So, they organised a scout party to find them.
The troopers were very thankful that one of their members, nicknamed corsair, was a scout trooper, as it didn't take long for him to find the trail the mandalorians took
On their travels, the 332nd trooper, named doralis, was asked about his experience fighting mandalorians.
"imagine a vulture droid." he told anyone who asked. "only it was shrunk to the size of a human, was just as agile and could punch you in the face."
After a few hours of travelling, corsair stopped the squad before pointing to a cave.
"the trail leads into their." he told them. "I'll go ahead, but keep your weapons ready. Only attack if I give the signal."
Corsair then hopped off his speeder and carefully approached the cave entrance.
Before he could even reach the cave, however, a sniper fired just in front of him, striking the wall and forcing him to stop moving.
That was when a squad of mandolorians emerged from the cave. Their armor looked worn and rusted, as though it had not been repaired in years
"state your buissness, outsider." the mandalorian at the front of the squad, presumably it's leader, told corsair.
"we are soldiers of the galactic Republic." the scout trooper told him as he dropped his blaster, showing that he meant to harm. "we came looking for you after we found a raider outpost burned to the ground. We don't want a fight. Just stand down, and we can discuss this."
The mandalorians, seeing him drop his blaster, obliged and stood down. They then explained their situation.
They were part of a group known as the true mandalorians, a splinter of the old mandalorian religion that sought to implement a sort of code of honour. However, they were defeated by deathwatch five years before the clone wars and forced to go into hiding. They had since spent the past six years hiding on remnant, fighting the warlords of vacuo. As it stood, their wad currently around 40 of them, many of them foundlings.
The clone troopers then explained their situation. To say that they were surprised to see clones of jango fett, who was once a member of the true mandalorians (this was shown in a comic called jango fett-open seasons) would be the understatement of the century. Nevertheless, they were glad that someone had finally come to aid them. They also took solace in the fact that deathwatch was no more, and that mandalore was starting to strive away from its pacifism.
"you know, you could come back with us." corsair offered the true mandalorians. "now that remnant knows about the wider galaxy, it's not like you need to hide away anymore. And honestly, you and you're men would make excellent additions to the Republic."
The leader of the true mandalorians, who revealed himself to named kodo kinal, briefly discussed this with his men, before saying.
"you have yourself a deal."
With that, corsair called for a transport ship to arrive at his location.
The true mandalorians looked to this situation with hope. This was the start of a new chapter. One where they can be the heroes they always wanted to be...
