Meanwhile, in the north of mistral, stood the city of sablina. Ruled by magistrate Elizabeth marena, the city was autonamous to the point of being virtually independent: it had its own security forces in the form of the sablina guard, it didn't pay taxes to mistral itself, and it implemented it's own laws - the most damming of which was the establishment of what was essentially and apartheid system targeting faunus.
The mistral government, which had been recently taking action against anti-faunus organisations, decided it was time to bring the autonamous city to heel. They deployed the recently formed mistralian army, or more specifically, the mistral skirmishers, an elite sharpshooter and reconnaissance unit, to attack the city and apprehend the magistrate
However, there was a problem: you see, many parts of mistral were not ruled by the central government directly, but instead by noble families, many of which fought for mistral in the great war. The city of sablina just so happened to lie within the territory of the nikos clan, the most influential of the houses.
The nikos clan gave the mistral government two options: either call off the mission, or allow warriors of the clan to join it.
And now, here the skirmishers were, resting in a camp on the outskirts of the city alongside nikos clan warriors.
The skirmishers didn't necessarily have a problem with the nikos clan itself: they respected the family for their service to mistral. What they had a problem with was their refusal to adapt to modern combat norms: none of their members used firearms, instead either using blades or their fists, and their unfiroms featured high heels, skirts, and exposed multiple vital organs
