CHAPTER 27: "Smaug"

It took us some days to get to Erebor but finally we were there. We could the Lonely Mountain. Thorin was looking at the rock wall.

"What are we going to do now?" Katie asked him.

"We will wait till the moonlight. Dwarves' doors show up by the light of the moon and the stars" Thorin said.

It was a cold night. We could see some stars but the clouds were hiding the moon. Thorin was nervous looking at the moon. Finally, the moon appeared through the clouds and the light of the moon and the stars made a door on the wall. We came in.

It was dark and cold. It all was in silence. Thorin waited there. I thought it was because of the dragon.

Suddenly, we arrivedat a chamber. There were so many gold coins and so many jewels. We didn't see the dragon anywhere. We started to walk around the chamber looking for the dragon.

Fili and Kili were looking at some jewels and they were arguing. The dragon had to be so big, so he had to be in that chamber. They were talking so loud that suddenly, something was moving on. We could see a big yellow eye.

The dragon rose. It was beautiful. It was red and gold. He had got yellow eyes. He had very big teeth and his claws were like knives. He had big wings.

"Dwarves..." he whispered. Fili and Kili were looking at him. They were afraid. "It would better tell me who you are and what do you want, otherwise, I will kill you" Smaug said.

"We are Katie and Marta and they are..."Katie said. Smaug looked at her making her stop talking.

"I know who they are. I was talking to you both"Smaug said.

"We need your help" I said.

"My help? Who do you think I am?" Smaug said.

"We need to destroy the balrog..." Katie said.

"...And?!" he said.

"And Elrond told us you were the only one who can kill it" I said.

"Is it about them?" Smaug said looking at Fili, Kili and Legolas. We nodded. "I don't make deals with elves and dwarves" he said.

Suddenly, Thorin appeared.

"Thorin..." he whispered.

"We need your help. I don't care if you like it or not but we need you" Thorin said.

"You only came to steal my gold" he said.

"You stole our home. This is our home, not yours" Thorin said.

Smaug started to move around the chamber.

"I'm a big dragon and your weapons cannot do anything to me!! Don't talk to me in that way scum dwarf" Smaug said. He spread his wings. He was showing his greatness. "If you leave now I will spare your live" he said.

"No! We need you" Katie said.

"We are not going anywhere. We travelled for so long to come here. We had been in danger. And Mirkwood was in danger too because of the balrog. We are not leaving" I said.

"Well then I have an only option" Smaug said. Kili looked at Fili smiling.

"So, will you help us?" Kili said.

"Yes" he said. "I will help you to die" he said with an evil voice. Then, his throat turned to red.

"RUN!!" Legolas said.

We started running and he blew fire to us. We came into another chamber and it was very dark. Smaug was behind us. I was running so fast and looking behind me that I didn't see the end of the path. I almost fell to the deep well. Thorin saved my life.

We opened a door and came into another chamber.

"You cannot hide!!" Smaug said yelling and he blew fire at the chamber. Before the fire came in, the guys could close the door.

"We need to find a way out" Thorin said.

"There's no way out!!" I said.

"Look!!!" Katie said pointing at a wall. We could see the daylight.

Thorin took Fili's ax and started to make a hole in the wall. Legolas took an ax that it was on the floor and started to help Thorin. Fili and Kili were holding the door. We heard some noises.

Smaug was scratching the wall.

Katie and I started to hold stones and put them on the wall. I knew the door wouldn't last but at least we had something to hold the door even if it was for five minutes.

They made a hole and when we were about to leave, smaug made a hole on the wall. It wasn't bigger but he put his eye on it.

"I will find you" he said.

We left. We ran as fast as we could.

"He isn't very friendly" I said.

"I told you he was evil" Thorin said.

"What can we do now?" Katie said. "We have no choices now" she said.

"Now, we have to face the balrog" Kili said.

"We cannot destroy it. Smaug is the only one" Legolas said.

"Maybe he will change his mind" I said. Kili started to laugh. He came towards me.

"Then, you should start to pray" he said winking at me.

We arrived to the forest of Mirkwood and we made a bonfire. We were so tired to go to where Thranduil was. I saw Thorin looking at the Lonely mountain. We could hear the dragon there.
