Chapter 13

The clock showed that it was three ten, which sadly meant our little outing was over.

Manolo groaned in frustration, not wanting this to end as much as I didn't want it to.

"Can't you just make up some excuse as to why you came home a little late? I'm not sure if it will work, but it's worth a shot."

As much as I wanted to, I knew it was pointless.

One time, Nicolas was infuriated with me because I came home thirty minutes later than usual, accusing me of cheating on him.

The truth is that I stayed a little longer at work because the room was a horrendous mess, and the school policy was that you couldn't leave without cleaning your classroom first.

Did he listen to me when I tried to explain?

Of course not.

"I would love to, Manolo, I really would." I rubbed his arm, attempting to comfort him. "But Nicolas isn't going to believe a single word I say. He's only going to believe what he thinks".

Nicolas's facial expression was a mixture of disappointment and worry.

It was disappointment because he knew I was right, and also worry because I knew it scared him now to leave me alone with Nicolas after discovering the truth.

"Please just call or text me when you're home and let me know if you feel he's suspicious of anything."

"I will," I reassured, seeing his face relax.

We then left the mall and got into his car, heading back toward the school so I could collect my main phone.

We arrived at the school around three thirty, which gave me enough time to grab my belongings and be home around my usual time.

"I enjoyed today, Manolo. It was fun and a much-needed getaway from reality." I hugged him and then opened the door to my car.

"I did too, and I hope we can do this again sometime, not under the circumstance of us sneaking around, though," the last part came out as a laugh.

I laughed back, nodding my head in agreement.

After we said our goodbyes, I entered my car on my way back home to the hell I call home.
