Back to the present time, but a couple of hours later.

Finishing grading the papers from today's assignment, I took it upon myself to enjoy the freedom I had before Nicolas came home demanding dinner.
It wouldn't kill him to cook his own food every once in a while. I mean, why do I have to cook all the time while he just sits on his ass and eats. He doesn't even care to help me with the dishes.
Rising from my bed, I go downstairs into the living room deciding to either watch this new show that Manolo told me about or read a new book I saw online.
I decided to read the book. It has many good reviews, and the plot line makes me extremely curious about what will happen to the couple.
Grabbing the book from the shelf with one of my vanilla-scented candles, I sit at the end of the couch, placing my candle on the table beside me.
Lighting the candle, I reach for the remote and turn on thunderstorm sounds on YouTube.
Many people enjoy complete silence or listening to relaxing music. I prefer hearing thunderstorms with a lovely scented candle next to me, wrapped up in my blush pink faux fur throw blanket.
It just sets the right reading mood for me.
A few chapters later, I heard my phone ding.
It's probably Manolo checking in on me. He's been doing that a bunch lately since he's found out about the abusive side of me and Nicolas's relationship.
Sticking my bookmark in the book, I sit it next to me, then grab my phone, checking to see who it is.

Wasting absolutely no time I open the message immediately . It's been a couple of days since we last spoke, and it's left me feeling like I have this empty void inside me.
Talking or even texting him never fails to brighten my day. Even though we talk about random topics, I cherish every conversation with him like it is my last.
Looking at the message, I feel a slight blush spread throughout my cheeks.
"Always with the charm," I chuckle.
David: Hey beautiful, how's your day going?
Jennifer: It's going well. I finished grading some papers some time ago, so now I'm just reading this new book that's been sitting on my shelf for ages.
David: That's good to hear. What book are you reading?
Jennifer: Me Before You, I saw a bunch of good reviews about it online and decided to give it a try
David: Ohh, ok, what's the story about?
Taken aback, I wasn't expecting David to show some interest in my book. He said he's into fantasy, drama, and sci-fi but not romance.
"Have you ever thought he's showing interest in the things you like to get to know you better or get closer to you?" a voice that strangely sounds like Manolo said inside my head.
Great, now I got his voice stuck inside my head.
Explaining the plot and what I know about the story, so far, he texts this next, causing a slight smile on my face.
David: It's been a minute since we've been on a date, and I'm sorry for that. I've been slumped with work lately and barely had time to do anything for real, but this Sunday, I'm available and wondering if you could go on a second date with me.
Jennifer: It's alright. I understand that owning your own business is a challenging and tiresome job to manage.
Jennifer: As for the second date, I would be delighted to go on another date with you. Just let me make sure I'll be able to make it. Hopefully, he has to work another double again 🤞🏼
David: I hope he does too, cause I miss you.
Jennifer: I miss you, too
Jennifer: What did you have in mind though? Another dinner date
David: Nah, I was thinking of something better.
David: Like hiking to La Fortuna waterfalls, I heard it has a beautiful view of the forest and the streams.
Jennifer: ...

"I should've known this was a bad date idea. Jennifer seems like the type of person to go on relaxing dates, and here I am trying to take her on some hiking adventure," I say, flopping myself on my bed.
While panicking, Jackson sat at my desk, attempting to calm me down since he believed I was being dramatic.
"Will you calm down? She hasn't replied yet, so why are you assuming the answer is no?"
"Because it usually doesn't take her this long to reply to one of my texts, so that must mean that the answer will be no, but she's just trying to figure out how to let me down easily."
"Or she probably got sidetracked, or she's researching the location to get more information on it, or for any other reason besides her rejecting you."
"Yeah....yeah, you're probably right," I said, placing my phone on my bed and waiting for her reply.
A couple of minutes passed by, and she finally texted me back.
Jennifer: I'm sorry. The school called me about a trip they are planning soon. But that sounds fun, I would love to go.
Jennifer: Is there anything in particular I need to bring? I've never been hiking before
"See, you did all that for no reason," Jackson said, peaking at my screen.
"Shut it. You know I sometimes get nervous about her."
"Yeah, yeah, I know," he said, playfully rolling his eyes.
David: Comfortable shoes, a large water bottle, and a bathing suit
David: I'll be there around noon to pick you up.
Jennifer: Ok!
Davi: Ok, great. Now I have to make dinner for Isabella and me. Talk to you later 🤎
Jennifer: Alright, talk to you later 🧡
