Jennifer P.O.V
The last thing I remember is this strange man sneaking up behind David and spraying him with mist, which caused him to pass out within seconds.
Panic floods my mind as I begin to think of all the reasonings behind us getting kidnapped.
What if Nicolas found out that I've been messing around with David?
What if he plans on torturing him or, worse....killing him?
He can't kill David because then what's going to happen to little Isa? It's bad enough she doesn't have her mother in her life, but I can't imagine the way she'll feel if she loses her father as well.
Nicolas can beat me all he wants, but the last thing I need on my conscience is David and his daughter getting involved.
Knowing Nicolas, he'll never let me forget as the guilt grows, eating me alive.
Opening my eyes, I see David slumped against the corner, looking slightly beaten up.
This is definitely Nicolas's doing. I'm entirely untouched, but it looks like David got into a fight with a wild animal and luckily won.
Well, somewhat won.
"David," I say, about to sit up, but I fail as I realize my hands are tied behind my back.
"David," I repeat, smoothing closer to him.
"David!" I kick him in the leg, and he finally wakes up.
Shuffling around in a panic, his eyes land on mine, and relief appears.
"Jennifer," he leans forward but retreats, wincing in pain. "A-are you ok?"
"I'm fine, but the better question is, are you okay?" I examine the bruises on his body.
His lip is a little busted, he has a dark blue mark on his cheek, and a few purple and blue bruises scattered around his arms.
"I'm fine. My friend Jackson does way more damage to me when we box each other.
Ok, so he must have good fighting skills, then
"How did this even happen? You passed out before I did, and I don't remember you fighting them".
"Whatever they sprayed me with didn't last long before they dragged us to the van, so I woke up and put up a fight trying to help us escape, but they got me pretty good and must've given me a stronger dosage."
"Well, I'm glad they didn't hurt you too badly," I weakly smile, still attempting to stand upright.
After successfully lifting myself from the ground, I feel the van bump something underneath us as we slightly bounce off the ground, and then we come to a complete stop.
"Tell the boss that we're here," a man from the outside says.
"On it," another man replies.
I know it's only been five minutes, but it feels like we've been waiting here for ages to see who our kidnapper is.
I still firmly believe it's Nicolas because who else would do this?
It's not like I have any enemies, and I'm sure someone wouldn't kidnap David because he messed up their request or something else that was petty.
So who?
As the doors open, the sunlight shines its blinding rays down on our faces, making it impossible to see the figure standing before us.
"You idiot, I told you to bring them to me unharmed." a...woman? Snaps, slapping one of the men
"We were going to, but that one over there started fighting us out of nowhere," he points at David. "Did you expect us just to get our asses beat?".
"I pay you to do what you're told, not to act like a bunch of crybabies," she says, stepping forward to the van blocking the sun.
I finally get a good look at her face, and for some reason, I feel like I know her.
It's the same feeling I felt when I first met David.
Staring at me in shock and sadness, she tears up.
"Jennifer?" She sniffs, wiping away her tears.
Jumping into the van, she throws herself on me, hugging me like she hasn't seen me in ages.
"You do not understand how long I've been searching for you."
Tensing up, I want to feel scared, but my body is saying something completely different.
"Um," I pause, looking at her face and trying to recognize her. "Do I know you?".
"Oh, right," she says, removing herself from me. I forgot that Nicolas did something to your memories, so you don't remember me anymore."
He.did.what?!
"H-hold on, what do you mean he did something to my memories?" I yell as my eyes almost pop out of my head.
How does she know me, and how does she know Nicolas?
The even bigger question: what does she mean he did something to my memories?
Standing up straight, she adjusts her shirt before whispering some orders to one of her men.
"I'll explain everything to you two once we get in the house, but for now, these idiots will untie the two of you, and you can follow me inside."
Snapping her fingers, they do exactly as she says, untying us like if they were to move any slower, she'll kill each one of them.
"Good job, boys. You can go somewhere else. I can continue just fine from here."
Nodding their heads, they scatter off, leaving me, David, and this beautiful woman alone.
Her aura and how she dresses tell you what type of woman she is.
Confident, bold, empowering, and very passionate.
She must love the color black cause that's the only color she has right now.
She is wearing black leather pants, a silk flowy long-sleeve blouse with broken red hearts all over, open-toe red bottom heels, and heart-cut ruby diamond earrings.
She's everything I wish I could be.
Stepping out of the van, she leads us around the vehicle, revealing a humongous but beautiful mansion.
So she's beautiful and extremely wealthy.
Walking closer to the house, I can't help but be captivated by its modern beauty.
"I know you said that you'll explain everything once we get in the house, but could we at least have a hint about what it is? The suspension is killing us," David says, plopping his arm on my shoulder.
Pausing in her tracks, she slowly turns around, having one of those severe expressions when you're about to tell someone a loved one died.
Inhaling a sharp breath, she says, "I'm going to reveal the truth to you two, but be prepared because it's not exactly going to be easy to sink in."
Huh.
What does she mean by the truth?
