Jennifer P.O.V
Since there was no school today, I took it upon myself to make David lunch today. He texted me this morning saying that he not only didn't get a chance to eat breakfast because he was running late, but he also forgot to take his lunch from the fridge before he left, leaving him with absolutely nothing to eat.
My poor baby.
Looking around the kitchen, I eventually found the ingredients I needed to cook him a big bowl of chicken Alfredo since he mentioned before that he's a big fan of the dish.
After placing the chicken, the pasta, and the other ingredients I need to make the sauce, I search for the biggest pot I have to get started on making his food.
An hour later.
After a few failed attempts (I accidentally burned the chicken twice because I got caught up in my show), I finally made the chicken Alfredo, feeling very proud of myself.
But Oh. My. God, it smells divine.
I was slightly tempted to make myself a small plate, but he needed this way more than I did, so I fought the temptation, looking around for a big bowl to put the food in.
Once I found a bowl, I poured the chicken Alfredo into it, put the lid on, then picked it up, made my way towards the door, grabbed my keys in the process, and then left the house.
Sometime later, I pulled up in front of a building, hoping I remembered the correct address. Luckily, I did, as I saw David's Jeep parked in the lot.
Grabbing the bowl, I exit the car and then walk towards the building, proceeding to let myself in since David is most likely still working, and I don't want to interrupt him.
Surprisingly, when I enter, I don't see anyone in sight, not even David.
He said he would be extremely busy this morning, so it must have finally died down not too long ago.
After what felt like an eternity, I finally found his office after walking through the building for probably thirty minutes.
He has about a thousand rooms here, so it was not easy to find his office.
Slightly stepping in, I knock on the door, grasping his attention.
Giving me a weak smile it makes my heart ache to see him in such a state.
He usually looks energetic and joyful, but now he seems stressed and worn out.
"How are you feeling?" I ask, walking over to his desk and taking a seat in one of the chairs he has placed in front of it.
"Like shit, but now that you're here, I'm feeling better now".
Even when he's feeling horrible, he still goes out of his way to show me how much he cares. It's a shame I didn't meet David before I met Nicolas. Maybe then I would've been married to him instead and had a better life.
"Well, I know something that'll make you feel even better." I smile while placing the bowl on the table.
Sniffing the air, I see a spark of happiness appear in David's eyes, causing a giggle to escape my lips.
"Did you make me food?" He weakly asks, removing the lid.
The instant he saw what was inside the bowl, I could tell he felt like he had just won a million dollars.
"Before I devour this entire bowl, do you want any?"
Chuckling, I decline his offer, and without a second to waste, he instantly grabs the fork and digs right into the food.
Wow, he's hungrier than I thought.
"I'm sorry for my rude manners, but you don't understand how hungry I am right now," he says, with his mouth full.
At least he covered his mouth while talking.
"It's fine. I've forgotten to bring lunch to school more times than I can remember, and as soon as I get home, I just grab the first thing I can to eat," I joke, causing us both to laugh.
After he's gotten a few more bites in, we start to talk about his workday, and god, I now understand why he looked so tired when I came in.
"Wait, wait, so you have fifty-three orders to complete, and they all have to be done before Valentine's day?" I ask, appalled for words.
"Yep, some aren't that hard while others are, so I plan on getting the easy ones out of the way and doing the hard ones last since they'll take the most time," he answers while sipping his Pepsi.
"Which exactly won't be the hardest versus the ones that are?"
"Drawings aren't that hard to do. All I have to do is sketch, darken the lines, add a little color and detail, and then I'm done. Painting is a longer process, especially waiting for them to dry completely so I can package them."
I nod, impressed that he does this every day and continues to do it even though it sometimes stresses him out.
"You think you'll be done with all of them by then?"
"I hope, or else I have to pay back the late fee," he chuckles, pushing the bowl away from him while patting his stomach.
"Late fee?"
" Yeah, if I finish the artwork late, I pay back half of what they gave me, it only seems fair," he shrugs, putting the lid back on the bowl.
"Not only are you a successful businessman, but you're a fair one too, it's hard to find that nowadays."
"Yeah, that's why I strive to be different and fair cause I feel it's the right thing to do," he smiles. "Besides business, though, what made you want to cook me this? Wouldn't you have rather stayed home and enjoyed your day off? I know there wasn't school today".
Standing up, I drag my chair next to his, then sit back down, resting my head on his shoulder.
"You think that after telling me that you not only have a busy day ahead of you but also didn't get a chance to eat today, that I'm not going to go out of my way to do something about that?" I joke, stroking his arm with my fingers. "Besides, you've always cooked for me, and I felt that I should return the favor."
"I cook for you because I lo—" he pauses, "because I want to. There are no favors to return, but I still appreciate you doing this for me, so thank you."
"You're welcome. Next time, I'll attempt to fix a five-star meal just for you," I joke as he wraps his arm around me.
"I'm looking forward to it," he says, kissing my lips.
I wonder what he was about to say. It sounded like he was about to say he loves me, but I don't believe he feels that way towards me yet. I know I've fallen in love with him, but I wonder if he's fallen in love with me.
It's probably best to wait rather than risk the chance of ruining our relationship so soon.
That'll be the best thing to do....right?
