“Garv, sit straight,” Dhruv said, tying the safa (turban) around my head.“Mera Professor mat ban” I reacted after hearing his strict instructions for the past hour since he had arrived here.
“Garv Banna, as per the relation, Dhruv Banna is older than you. Bade jamaisa hai” Abhimanyu Jijosa stated, supporting Dhruv. “Bhabha” Anu handed me the watch but I asked him to make me wear it around my wrist.
“Talwar kidhar hai?” Yuvraaj asked, searching in the cupboard. It is mandatory for each groom to keep a sword aside during all the rituals including the pheras.
“Lakshay Bhabha must be knowing it” Vihaan informed, engrossed in making Ziya wear her shoes.
“Aapsa, ye button” Raj pulled Dhruv’s kurta, displaying his half-buttoned kurta, waiting for his father to help him. “Anu, help Raj,” I asked, glancing at my cousin.
Before Anubhav could lift Raj, he cried holding his father’s kurta, screaming that only his father was allowed to button up his kurta. “Beta, tere bade papa ko late ho raha hai. 2-minute ruk jaa” He said, checking the safa.
(Your bade papa is getting late. Wait for two minutes)
After a chaotic session, I walked outside of the room to reach the garden area of the hotel where the Haldi will take place. Following Panditji’s words, I sat on the bajot (small-height wooden stool) and joined my palms to begin the pre-wedding rituals officially.
Completing the Vinayak Pooja, Mehar Bhabisa placed the bowl filled with Haldi. “Mai pehle lagaugi” Chitra announced, dipping her finger in the bowl, and waiting for approval from the elders.
(I will apply first)
Mumma nodded asking her to apply over my cheek. “Next mai” Shivansh announced, following Chitra’s actions. His little hand clumsily fell into the bowl. Sanjana jija grabbed his hand and cleaned it with tissue paper, carefully instructed him to perform the Haldi by applying it.
(Next me)
One by one, each one assembled forming a line to apply Haldi only when my eyes noticed Ziva and Riddhi taking a seat beside me, giggling exchanging their words that weren't easy to decipher their half-heard words.
“Congratulations,” Anaya Bhabhi said standing beside Vihaan, ready to color with the yellow substance that had already covered my face. “Thank you,” I said, looking at them accompanied by a curved line on my lips.
“Warning you already, don’t dare to hurt my sister, my dear best friend” Vihaan affirmed but that transformed into giggles noticing my stare fixed on his face, listening to his threat.
