“All right team. Despite all the efforts, we were unsuccessful in gathering inputs in Louissa International vs State of Maharashtra.” Mayank Sir revealed, getting up from the chair while the rest of them maintained the official decorum of our posture. Hands clasped behind, straight eyes paying attention to his words and pin-drop silence from each of us.

“This case will be handled by the higher authorities. See you all tomorrow.” His voice echoed in the room. Saluting him one by one, everyone retired from his cabin except me, when his words ordered me to stay.

“Yes sir” I answered and sat down when his hand pointed at the chair.

“What’s your view on Abhishek Chowdhury’s case?” He inquired, his hand stacking the files one above another.

“As far as I’m concerned, this case is a composite of various elements connected to it.” I paused. “The murder took place in the hotel room where the party was hosted. That means, someone out there was confident he would be attending it. During the investigation, I looked for the reason that made him visit that room but I didn’t find any. Nobody knows what he was doing over there. As per the hotel records, the room was booked under the name of Nishant Shergill. Mr. Chauhan was made to go to the next room by Mr. Joshi to change his outfit. But I am still figuring out the reason why and how late Abhishek Chowdhury made his way to the room booked by Nishant Shergill, who is practically the one who hosted the event” I stated all the inputs discovered in the previous round of investigation but before I could proceed further, Anisha asked us to close the case because her mother’s health was deteriorating making it impossible for her to contribute her cooperation.

He paid concentration to each word disclosing the connections.

“Hmm. That’s a big question we neglected in the beginning.” His hands massaged his temples. “Let’s hope Ms.Anisha returns from the US soon.” He said.

After exchanging viewpoints and summarizing all the findings, I retired from his cabin after his permission, setting my footsteps towards my desk.

Pulling my chair out, I made myself comfortable and my hand reached to get my phone from my bag.

6.20 pm.

The digit displayed on my lock screen consists of our photo from the concert. Though he wanted to post it on his social media, his plans were put off so he decided to make it available online after some time, maybe once we get married.

Twenty-five days have passed successfully since we got engaged but it has been more than ten days since we met in person. Credits goes to the case that forcefully resulted in disorganizing our daily routine. We never had one though ever since we joined this duty.

“Avantika” My best friend slid her chair closer and I flipped my phone screen, shoving it in my pocket.

“Hmmm. Don’t hide your lock screen from me.” Her words teased but I remained unbothered, showing the least explicit effect on my facial muscles.
