“Avu, rasam ke liye aaja. Jamaisa ka swagat hone wala hai” Bhuasa announced, standing on the doorstep. At the same time, my eyes took a final glimpse at the red handcrafted dabka poshak with a beautiful broad border adoring the odhna and ghaghra.
(Avu, be ready for the ritual. It's his welcoming time ) (jamaisa - son-in- law)
“Yes Seema Bhuasa, we will be there in five minutes” Geet jija reported, gripping the haathphool hook sent by his family along with padla.
(Padla- the bridal wear i.e poshak, jewellery, and other gifts are sent along with the baarat by the groom’s family)
“How am I supposed to do this?” Aaru asked, figuring out how to tie the bajuband while Geet jija assisted her with the instructions.
Wearing my juttis, I followed Geet jija, stepping out of the room only to hear ladies singing traditional songs marking his arrival at the main gate where Mumma would welcome him grandly inside the house performing the aarti.
Kids’ giggles were joined by their unbothered run and chase around the house while the ladies were in a hustle by providing all the requirements to the pandit ji required during the pheras. Moving my eyes to the left, I found Vihaan Bhai busy conversing with the caterer.
I searched for my family members but paused recollecting how each one of them is engaged with their respective works. “I am telling you Vihaan Bhai. It’s your responsibility to cleverly get your hands on the sword. Ladki walo ki ijjat ka sawaal hai” Kavya’s loud voice instructed descending the stairs, holding the plate that consisted of varmala. Vihaan Bhai skimmed in her direction and nodded at her words.
(It's a matter of team bride's honor)
“Avantika, chal” Geet jija’s voice alerted me, placing a rice ball in my palm. I have to throw it on him during the ritual when Mumma will be occupied trying to catch his nose but he shouldn’t find my location among them. I have to do it secretively, being escorted by other ladies all around. One of the ladies placed an orange odhna disguised as someone to escape from his eyes.
Six ladies escorted me to the entrance, but the moment paused when I witnessed him in front of my eyes through my ghunghat, bringing a vague picture of him. Smile is his best accessory I believe. Mumma’s hands were busy with aarti. The flames of the jhilmil aarti mirrored his dark brown eyes.
