The two masterminds behind the entire murder scandal stood behind the iron bars. Their eyes involuntarily communicated their abhorrence for me. I subtracted the remaining distance between us.
“What are you doing here?” One of them growled, curling the fingers tightly around the bars.
I shook my head and smirked. “What an odd thing to ask an investigation officer?”
“Just fuck off.” The other man in misery banged his hand with a yell.
“Lower your tone when you speak in front of me, especially when you both are standing under my rule.”
“You’ll regret messing with us. I’m telling you again. You’ll regret it.” He enunciated as he breathed heavily, filling the tension surrounding us.
“Actions speak louder than words, Karan and Aryan.” I pasted a toothy smile and shoved my hands in my pockets. “Aur kanoon ke haath lambe hote hai.”
(The law's reach is long.)
“But how did you find out it’s us?” Karan asked, sidelining his partner-in-crime. “I’m sure you are involved in Anisha’s death.”
Smart. But I wasn’t dumb to confess it in front of them.
“If I were the one, I wouldn’t be standing in front of you both.” I turned on my shoes with a single step. “And let the answer to your question be my little secret.”
I noticed my husband submitting his statements to Inspector Anil Kumar. His gaze softened, noticing me as a pleasant smile curled on his lips.
“Is there anything left?” He returned his attention to the man sitting in a khaki uniform.
“The court may ask you to appear as the witness. Don’t worry about the security. I’ll ask the superiors to take care of it until the court issues the judgment. But we need a final word from your side.”
Garv looked at me for my input. “There’s no pressure from us on you, Mr. Chauhan. As Inspector Kumar assured, we would look after every possible measure to prioritize your family security until the court declares its final judgment.”
