What’s the most uncertain thing in your life? Time. You never know what the next seconds hold for you. You never know what is waiting for you in the next moment. Is it waiting with moments as pleasing as petals of roses or with haunting experiences as unbearable as thorns?

The last day began with the bliss of trying my engagement poshak unaware of the bitter truth that approached with evening. I trembled upon the fact when Dr. Sofia announced the report results. Neither I nor my best friend believed her words.

All I could question was - I have been taking this test for one and half years and this was my third time visiting her as a part of my general checkup during that period. The last two reports never revealed any medical issues, but why this time?

And as expected she revealed my accident has a connection with it. The injuries on my lower abdomen are the reason for my infertility. The reason for shattering my dreams of being a mother, restraining me from embracing the endearing phase of motherhood.

What did I do to face the brutal truth of myself?

“Avu” My best friend’s voice paused my thoughts, her arms wrapped around me providing comfort and I stared at the wall clock informing me the time - 3.45 am.

None of us bothered to have dinner. None of us made an effort to sleep.

“Avu, please don’t punish yourself." She waited for my answer. "Should I make your favorite noodles? Or that aloo sandwich. You make it so delicious. The taste is still alive though it has been years. You used to make it for me in Delhi whenever you used to visit Maasi’s place” Her words attempted to distract me but I didn’t move my eyes to even glance.

“Coffee banau? Wait, let me order some momos for you from your favorite restaurant. I know I have ordered many times this week.”

My unsaid words disappointed her.

I stretched the blanket, covering myself to not let her know my condition. But I was crying, noticing her efforts to cheer me up. Though she was astonished to discover the reports, she ensured throughout the time to be with me, assuring me with her heartwarming words.

I sensed her footsteps leaving the room and after a while, I heard the door closing joined by footsteps approaching back and feeling someone sitting on the bed. The person isn’t my best friend. Quickly uncovering the blanket from my face, I blinked, finding him, sitting silently, his dark brown eyes questioning my condition.

“What are you doing here?” I moved my gaze to my hands clasped resting on the blanket only to feel him slouching down on the bed, his hand lifting my hand and his fingers intertwined.
