Chapter 38

"I didn't stutter, Y/N" Tony said with finality.

"I agree with Tony on this one. That's too many botched missions" Steve quickly agreed.
"Someone is onto us, and we need to know who, and why" Tony added.
"But you hired us for missions" you said with a bit of frustration.
"No, we hired you to be Avengers. Sometimes we even need to take a backseat and reassess" Steve said gently.
"Oh gosh, I hope our old team is okay" you said, realizing they could be in danger as well.
"They all made it out yesterday, but Fury has pulled his teams too" Tony advised you gently. "He beefed up security on all SHIELD buildings, and we are beefing up our private security here as well" he continued.
"Don't worry pet, we are safe here" Loki reassured you and kissed you on your temple.
"It's not us I'm all that worried about," you admitted.
"I know. You're worried about your friends. So is Gabby" he told you softly.
"You're not supposed to be in my head" she snarled at him.
"I'm not. It's clear on your face" he said gently.
"Are we working on our reports first, or going to bed first?" Scott asked, trying to change the subject.
"You kids need your sleep. We will work on them after we wake up" Clint replied quickly. "Those brainiac's can look at our data in the meantime and we can maybe get to the bottom of this" he said. Loki reached over and clasped your hand, threading his fingers through yours for a moment before he brought it up to his face and he kissed the back of your hand.
"You need your rest my darling, as does Scott. Healing takes a lot of energy" Loki said softly.
"Wanna take over the living room couches and watch tv until we pass out?" Scott offered quickly and Loki glared at him while you giggled.
"I think I'd rather have my big comfy bed," you laughed.
"There's the smile I was looking for" he grinned victoriously. "Alright, we will wait for later tonight" he shrugged and you laughed again.
"We will try not to sleep too long Tony, I know you need your reports as does Fury. Besides we are back to day shift for the time being" Clint advised.
"Speak for yourself, I'm letting Y/N sleep" Loki told him.
"Friday, set an alarm in my room for noon please" you called out.
"Of course, Rose," Friday said back to you. Loki glared, but didn't say a word, seeming to accept that you were going to be stubborn about it. Clint, Thor and Scott also asked Friday to set an alarm for them. Loki seemed to have already decided where he was sleeping, but you didn't discuss it. You were glad he felt so at ease with you, as you did with him.
Breakfast passed quickly and by the time you were done, you were exhausted. You just wanted to sleep. Loki didn't even let you stand, but picked you up out of your chair and you let out a giggle as he carried you back upstairs.
When he laid you out in your bed, Kitty came up and curled into you. Willow barked, clearly needing her morning walk.
"I'll be back, love, I just need to take sweet Willow for her walk" Loki gave you a kiss on the forehead and you hummed.
"And then we can cuddle?" you asked hopefully.
"We will cuddle to our hearts content" he promised. He waited until he heard a gentle snore before leaving the room with Willow in his wake.

When you woke up to the alarm, Loki looked like he hadn't even slept. He was watching you while you were curled in under his arm with your head on his chest. Willow was curled up behind your legs, while Kitty was up on your hip.
"Do you feel rested, my love?" Loki asked after the alarm finally stopped.
"Not at all" you yawned.
"You can sleep a little more if you like," he suggested.
"Everyone will worry if we don't go down for lunch," you reminded him.
"I do remember promising you a bubble bath" he gave an impish grin.
"But we have our reports" you pouted. "I do want the bubble bath though" you sighed.
"How about this, I'll advise them that we are not joining for the afternoon meal and you get your beautiful little self ready for a bath" he gave a half smirk.
"After. I don't want to disappoint" you yawned again, and nuzzled into him for a moment. You did a small stretch and both Willow and Kitty jumped down off the bed. "Besides they might have an update on the data" you said hopefully.

"Very well, then this evening I will pour you a bubble bath and you will relax" he said, seeming a bit distressed that you weren't taking his suggestions.
"Okay, thank you" you leaned up and kissed him on his cheek before rolling out of bed. You were still dressed, so you made your way to the door. Loki was quick out of bed, using his magic to make the bed and he followed you closely.
When you got to the dining room Loki immediately stiffened and looked at both Bruce and Tony. Wanda looked distressed looking between you and Gabby.
"What's going on?" you asked automatically.
"That's what I'm wondering about," Gabby said quickly. You studied both Tony and Bruce who wouldn't look directly at you or Gabby, and seemed contemplative. You took your seat with Loki beside you and he reached under the table and laced his fingers with yours. You raised an eyebrow at him and he kissed your temple again. The table quickly filled up, but the tension could be cut with a knife.
"What's going on?" Clint asked, being the last one at the table.
"We got through some of the data, it's not good," Tony said.
"What is it?" you asked him and Loki tightened his hold on you.
"AIM wants their experiments back," Bruce said when Tony seemed to be hesitating. "They are targeting you and your old team," he explained.
"Then we take down AIM" you shrugged, taking the news better than the others anticipated.
"Yeah, we've been wanting revenge for years. It's the perfect opportunity. We go for their main base and take it out. After we can go for smaller bases" Gabby nodded.
"Fury wants Steve and I to go over for a meeting, we are going to discuss next steps. We need your reports, all of you. Our meeting is tomorrow" Tony advised.
"Do our old teammates know yet?" you asked quickly.
"I don't know if he kept them appraised" he shook his head. "You should eat something," he suggested.
"I'm not that hungry" you pushed your plate away. "I'll have something to drink, but I'm not up for food" you admitted.
"Me neither" Scott and Clint said at the same time.
"Are you guys coming up to my room to work on reports?" you asked.
"Yes! Party in your room" Scott teased. Loki took out his phone and typed into it for a few minutes before he finished. You went for a cup of coffee, wondering who he was texting but you knew you would get it out of him later.

When you got back to your room you went and automatically got your laptop and came back to the living room, leaving the door open for everyone to come in. Loki came first with his laptop and sighed.
"I should have left it in here" he announced as he sat down beside you.
"You should leave a few things here," you said with a smirk. He looked at you surprised and then broke out into a grin.

"I think I shall," he nodded and kissed your cheek.
"You missed," you said with a pout.
"You're right, I certainly did" he smirked devilishly and grabbed you, kissing you hard on the lips before quickly deepening the kiss. You sighed happily and ran your fingers through his long hair and he gave a moan. His hands went to your hair, and then one traveled down to your body as he started pressing you down into the couch.
"Whoa, did not need to see that!" Clint said with a laugh when he came into the room. Loki growled in the back of his throat but broke the kiss. Loki fixed your hair and your clothes and you fixed his hair while Thor and Scott came in.
"Night team is back together!" Scott said and came and took a seat on the other side of you, putting his feet up. "I called Hank Pym this morning about my gear. He's pissed he has to fix it. I'll be taking off this weekend to spend time with Hope and Cassie while he fixes my suit. Maybe Tony and Steve will let me go a little early" he said hopefully.
"Early is music to my ears" Clint agreed with him. "The more time I get to spend with my family, the better," he added.
"I feel my time is better suited here" Thor said with a resigned sigh. "I shall notify Jane I won't be able to make it this weekend. We do not know what AIM or Hydra has up their sleeve" he added solemnly.
"They'd be stupid to try to take Shield or the Avengers facility on their own" Scott said quickly.
"But weekends, there are fewer of us around" Thor pointed out and Loki's arm tightened around you.
"You have a good point," Clint frowned. Loki's cell phone dinged at that moment and he looked at it like it offended him before he smiled.
"I shall return momentarily my darling" he said and got up. You watched him leave the room and finally opened your laptop to start working on your report as did the others. You were just getting into the details of the beginning of the mission when Scott had cried out on comms when Loki returned with a large box of chocolate covered strawberries. You would recognize it anywhere. You giggled and he grinned victoriously.
"You didn't think I would let you go without eating, did you?" he asked with a large smile on his face, and you giggled again thinking about how you were going to repay him for such a favor.
"Thank you, my love" you cooed to him and he set down the treats for everyone to enjoy in the center of the table.
