The sun was a warm kiss on Leehan's face as he strolled through the campus, a carefree melody humming in his chest.
Today was one of those perfect days where the world seemed painted in hues of optimism. He searched for his friends, their laughter usually a familiar sound in this sea of students.
Spotting Woonhak, Jaehyun, Riwoo, and Sungho huddled together, Leehan quickened his pace, a grin stretching across his face.
"Hey, guys!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with cheer. "Have you seen Taesan? I haven't heard from him in a while like 2 days already..."
His friends exchanged puzzled glances. Woonhak scratched his head. "Taesan? No, I haven't seen him today." Jaehyun said, while Riwoo and Sungho simply shook their heads.
A flicker of confusion ignited in Leehan's chest. Taesan was always the one who'd announce his plans, no matter how spontaneous. They were practically inseparable.
It was unusual for Taesan to disappear without a trace, especially without dragging Leehan along. A day would be fine but 2 days is new for him.
"That's weird," Leehan muttered, a frown tugging at his lips. "He usually tells me if something comes up or if he'll be gone for a few days. Sometimes, he asks me to tag along."
"Have you tried texting him?" Riwoo suggested.
"Yeah, I even called him 50 times but I can't reach his phone for some reason."
Internal panic began to creep into Leehan's thoughts. What if something happened to Taesan? The idea was terrifying. He'd never faced a situation like this before. They were always together, a dynamic duo navigating the complexities of life.
"I'm starting to get worried," Leehan admitted, his voice trembling slightly. "He would never just disappear like this."
His friends' expressions turned serious. Sungho placed a comforting hand on Leehan's shoulder. "Don't worry too much, Leehan. Maybe he's just busy or his phone is dead."
Phone? Dead? Taesan will always reply instantly to Leehan. He'll even answer the call even if it's in the middle of the night.
Leehan couldn't shake the growing unease. His mind raced with endless possibilities, each one more terrifying than the last.
"Maybe he's just...well.. late?" Woonhak tried to cheer him up. Leehan looked at him, considering his words before slowly nodding hesitantly.
"Oh," Sungho exclaimed, "Someone's looking for you earlier."
It must be Nica. Leehan avoided her the day after the dinner by the lake with Taesan, the day she texted him. But, he wanted to make sure that it's her or other people.
"Who?" Leehan asked.
"I don't know her name but she said that she already told you beforehand like yesterday..?" Sungho replied.
"What does she look like?"
"Tall but shorter than you, long hair...err.. porcelain skin?-"
"She's tanned." Jaehyun corrected Sungho.
"She is?" He asked facing him, earning a nod from Jaehyun before facing Leehan again.
"Tall, long hair, tan skin, and wears hair clips." Sungho squinted his eyes and looked away, trying to check if he remembered it correctly. "Yeah, that's all I remember."
"Does she have a white shoulder bag?" Leehan continues to ask.
"I guess"
"Wear a gold necklace?"
"I'm not sure.."
"How about a bracelet?"
"Umm...no.?"
"Does she have-"
"I don't know!" Sungho bursted, "I can't remember everything about her, Leehan. I'm not even sure if she's tan or not but Jaehyun said so."
Jaehyun burst into laughter, his shoulders shaking with amusement.
Sungho glared at him, his face turning a deep shade of red. "Shut up," he grumbled.
Leehan sighed, a wave of relief washing over him. He knew who it was. Nica. The name floated through his mind like a wisp of smoke. He'd dated her for a while, but things hadn't ended well. Still, she wasn't the type to cause trouble.
"Maybe it's Nica," Leehan said aloud, trying to sound casual.
"She left about an hour ago," Riwoo chimed in, his voice laced with curiosity. "Is she one of your flings?"
Leehan hesitated for a moment before answering. "Used to be," he admitted, his cheeks flushing slightly.
Riwoo raised an eyebrow. "Taesan knows?"
Leehan nodded.
A heavy silence descended upon the group. The carefree atmosphere had vanished completely, replaced by a sense of unease. Leehan's heart pounded in his chest as he tried to piece together the puzzle. Where could Taesan be? And what was going on with Nica?
