A soft breeze of warm air hit my face as we walked over the stony pavement of our garden, in silence. Even though we were here to talk about the impending topic, neither of us has spoken anything about it yet.
We just walked around the house quietly, enjoying the brilliance of the lucent moon overcast upon us, illuminating the stygian aura of the night. Chirping of the crickets reverberated across the garden, infiltrating our veneer of comfortable silence.
A smile emerged on my lips as I gazed at the colourful stars bedazzling the sky.
"Do you remember how obsessed we were with shooting stars?" I asked while gazing at the sky, revisiting the fond memories of our childhood.
A faint sound of her breathy chuckle resonated around us, causing me to look at her.
"We? You." She said, with a teasing voice while giving me playful side eyes then tilted her face to gaze at the sky.
The soft glow of moonlight cascaded on her face as she gazed at the stars, with a smile adorning her face.
"That's on Daadi. She was the one who told me that the shooting star would fulfill my wish." I said, with a breathy chuckle.
"What was the wish though? You never told me." She asked, looking at me.
"Nahi bataunga." I said, with a smirk.
She rolled her eyes in agitation as usual, causing me to chuckle at her reaction.
It's fun to annoy her.
A smile emerged on my face as I thought about my 8 year old self.
Naina and I had gotten into a fight about something while playing, after which Naina swore to never speak to me again. At that point, the egoistic child in me accepted the 'end of our friendship' after saying a lot of hurtful things to her and promised to never see her again.
But, by the end of the day, I started missing her so damn much that I ran to her house to apologise, with a milkybar in my tiny hand.
In my defence, I was a dumb stubborn 8 year old, with no brain.
When I reached her house, she refused to meet me, which caused me to burst into tears right there. Sharda Aunty saw me and consoled me until I dozed off in her arms.
When I woke up, I saw Daadi reading the Space Encyclopedia next to me. Curiosity peaked in me as I saw the images of various stars and started peeking into her book.
