"Tu bol

"Tu bol." I said, in a low whisper, nudging Naina forward while looking towards our family at the breakfast table.

(You say.)

"Mai kyu bolu, tu bol." She said, whispering and nudging me back, her brows scrunched.

(Why should I say it? You speak.)

"Nahi, mujhe sharam aati hai, tu bol." I said, literally begging.

(No, I feel shy, you speak.)

"I'm shy too!" She whisper-yelled.

As comical as this situation looked, I'm horrified to reveal our decision to our family. Not that they would be against it or anything like that, but because it's… I don't know, a little awkward.

They have been teasing us about eachother our entire lives and we have always been rejecting their averments, and now, all of a sudden, we've decided to stay married, even after planning to part ways initially.

Even though we're full-grown adults who happen to be married, I just know that the moment we reveal our decision to them, the entire family is going to bully us, especially Daadi. And, it'll be worse if I reveal it, kyuki mai toh ghar ka free entertainment hu, joh aata hai bully karke chala jaata hai.

(Because I'm the free entertainment of our house, whoever comes, bullies and leaves.)

"Okay, fine. Ab apan Miya-Biwi hai, Let's do this together. Aadha-aadha bolenge." I said, using my big brain and bringing us to a concord.

(Now, we're a couple.)
(We'll say half-half.)

"Okay, you start." She said, nodding her head, a hint of frolicsome on her face.

"No, you start. I'll add on to it." I said, pleading.

"Tune puri duniya ke saamne bol diya, par daadi se darr raha?" She said, in a low voice, a tad of disbelief mixed with amusement springing her voice.

(You said it infront of the whole world, but you're scared of Daadi?)

"I'm not scared. Who said that I'm scared of her?" I asked, in a defensive tone, looking at her with a deadpan expression.

I am indeed scared of her.

"Liar. Toh phir jaake bata." She said, a tiny smirk emerging on her lips.

(Then, go and tell.)

I looked at her with the same deadpan expression, a little entertained by her untimely cheerful demeanor.

Why is she not panicking?

"You know what, fine. I am scared of her because she's a bully. Happy? Chal ab jaake bata." I said, nudging her forward, again.

(Now, go tell them.)

She turned towards me with narrowed eyes and reached her arm to nudge me back. An impassive expression adorned my face as I gazed down at her, appalled yet amused at her untimely antic.
