"They found out."

A shiver ran down my spine the moment those petrifying words entered my ears, its connotation echoing in my disconcerted mind.

"What?" I whispered under my breath, looking at Di with wide eyes.

Please, be something else. Please, be something else.

Every fibre in my body wanted to believe that she was talking about something else, something not related to our sequestered truth, but the look on her face and the fear brimming in her eyes conveyed the reality my heart was terrified to accept.

My gaze wandered to our family sitting behind Di, all their petrified faces staring back at me, brewing an unexplainable amount of panic in my heart.

How did this happen? How did I lose even after trying so hard?

I tried my best to handle everything, from the stupid articles to demeaning posts online, I took care of everything and everyone, yet somehow, I couldn't save our truth from unfolding.

The reduction of our negative PR actually made me believe that we were emerging out of this calamitous situation, but I was so wrong. Unfortunately, I assumed that silence to be a ray of hope but in reality, it was just a deceitful curse mimicking calm before an imminent storm.

"It's.. it's all over the internet." Di said, in a panicked voice.

Her words made my heart flitter in fear, making my anxiety grow cavernous. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my panic-stricken self but the severity of the situation made it extremely difficult to do so.

I need to stay calm. Just stay calm, Shubman.

Suddenly, a flashback of Naina's anxiety attack recurred in my mind, causing me to look at her in reflex. She was looking at Di with wide eyes and a horrified expression overcast on her face. The very next second, her panic-stricken face turned towards me.

"Mannu." I heard her whisper, her voice lacing with a mixture of sadness and fear.

A wave of trepidation enshrouded me as I watched her eyes well up with unshed tears.

"Mannu... Wh-" She whispered in a low panicked voice, but couldn't complete her statement and stopped mid sentence.

Her tearful eyes and visibly hitched breath erupted a wave of fear in me, hinting at her anxiety building up.

"Naina." I said, panicked as I stepped closer to her.

"Mannu.. they.. found out." She whispered, in a breaking voice.

"Naina, please, don't get scared. We'll take care of everything. Whatever has happened, I'll take care of it. I promise." I said while cupping her face in my hands.

My fright deepened when I saw her take quick short breaths through her mouth.

No! No! No!

"Man..nu.." She muttered in the midst of her breaths, a solitary tear rolling down her eye. "I can't... I can't.. breath." She added.
