Maxine rests herself up against the wooden headboard of her bed. The soft bedsheets bundled up around her legs, shielding her from the cold air filling her apartment. It's a crisp winters morning in London, and Maxine lives in a pretty run-down flat. The windows are constantly cracked open slightly, allowing slivers of cold air to sneak in. Despite the awful home, Maxine lives in a nice area of London. just down the road is Camden market which is always bustling with visitors and tourists.
Maxine has always loved art, specifically the medium of painting. Her apartment shows this passion excellently, with paintings sprawled across the living room and a nice easel sitting comfortably in the corner by the window. In the summer, this was perfect. However in the winter was when Maxine's ideas would run dry. She could sit by the window and take in the landscapes around her, often painting from reference and adding her own unique aspects which differentiate her work from others. The season of winter is just constantly grey skies and gloomy weather, which is not inspiring at all.
Today is no different. Maxine instead would rather sit in bed reading, picking up a paintbrush was the last thing on her mind. She adores painting, but creative block was intense every time winter came around.
Better news is that her best friend is once again coming back to visit today. Maxine has been best friends with Daisy since high school. Even before then, they were neighbours and basically grew up together. Maxine was only 6 when she first met Daisy, and Daisy was 10. They used to live next-door to each other in a small neighbourhood on the outskirts of London. Maxine had lived with her grandad for pretty much her entire life, her parents were always away on 'work trips' often leaving her to fend for herself. Until her grandad took her under his wing, she would spend her days alone in her parent's house, even missing school as they would never bother to take her. Maxine's grandad was her hero, he looked after her and she was given the life she deserves, even eventually getting into a small art uni in the south of London. He left her money in his will to support her with university and even enough to buy a small flat. When he passed away, Maxine was distraught. She had no idea what to do with herself, but she always knew that he would want her to continue her passion of fine art and pursue it as a career one day. Daisy was the one who helped Maxine get back on her feet, and she will be forever grateful for that.
Whilst Maxine stayed in London to study art, Daisy had transferred to medical school in New York. Daisy had always dreamed of becoming a doctor, and this offer was her pathway towards it. Inevitably, Daisy met her boyfriend in New York, who she's now been with for 5 years. Her boyfriend's name is Jacob and he's a business man who has a lot of money, Daisy lucked out. They met whilst she was studying over there and they've been together ever since. Maxine's never been to New York, but Daisy and Jacob always come back to London to visit her.
Half an hour had gone by before Maxine's phone buzzed. She looks down at the screen and sees a text from Daisy saying that they have arrived at London City Airport.
