"Just these please." Gerard says to the cashier as he pulls out some cash to pay. He walks out of the shop carrying a bag with glass bottles in it.

The bottles clink together as he places them down on his kitchen counter. He pulls one out and unscrews the lid, tears still falling down his face. He places the cold glass on his lips and the burning sensation immediately hits his throat.

------------

Maxine's phone buzzes unexpectedly.

Gee <3

I'm sorry Max

She chooses to ignore the text, still annoyed at him for earlier. She's been getting on well with Luke's friends, but they're now all roaming the streets since the bar closed at 1am. Luke has been following Gerard's instructions and making sure that Maxine is safe and not too wasted, whilst still having fun.

Eventually Maxine realises the street that they're on and decides that she should go home whilst she's close by. Luke walks her to the door to make sure she gets in okay and they say their goodbyes. She prepares in her head for the confrontation she'll inevitably face from Gerard, knowing that her behaviour tonight hasn't been the nicest towards him.

The expression on her face drops as soon as she walks through to the kitchen.

"Gerard!" She runs over and throws herself down beside his lifeless body. An almost empty vodka bottle is laying beside him which she pushes out of the way. She lifts his head up and leans back against the fridge, caressing his tear stained cheek as she calls his name over and over again. His eyes wince slightly, making her feel relieved that he's somewhat conscious. She continues to cry out to him hoping for a response, shaking his head slightly. Guilt flows throughout her entire body as she holds him tightly.

"I didn't mean it Gee, I'm so sorry. I love you so much. Please!" She begs for him to snap back into consciousness. She leans her head back against the fridge and tears continue to fall all the way down her neck. Her breathing gets more intense and she shuts her eyes in an attempt to calm herself down. Unexpectedly, she somehow falls asleep, her hands still intertwined in his hair.

She immediately wakes up when she feels movement in her lap. She looks down at him with a saddened look on her face. He notices her messy makeup, puffy eyes and the empty vodka bottle across the room, he shuts his eyes as he feels a pounding in his head.

"I'm so sorry Gee, I didn't mean any of it. I promise!" She says to him, still panicked. He looks back up at her. "I love you so much, please remember that." He smiles at her.

"I love you too. I didn't think you would come back." He replies in his raspy voice. Maxine begins to cry again, feeling an insane amount of guilt running throughout her body. He reaches up and wipes her face. "It's not your fault Max, I just felt so shit and thought this would solve it. I'm sorry, I don't know what I would do if I woke up without you here."

"No stop, it's never your fault Gee." She explains to him. "It was just, hearing you say that, then seeing you with Luke. I- I don't know, it just hurt. I know you would never say those things sober." He admits to her.

"I know, and I'm so sorry. I can't even tell you how sorry I am, I would have never forgiven myself if you didn't wake up." She continues to cry. "Nothing happened between me and Luke, and it never will. I would never give you up, I love you too much Gee. He's gay anyways, remember?" She jokes at the last part and earns a small chuckle from him.

"I know sugar." He sits up and holds her hand. "I love you too. This will never happen again, it was so fucking stupid of me."

"No! You relapsed, it's not stupid. I'm always here for you Gee, always. We'll get through this together, you're never alone you know!" She explains to him, staring deeply into his eyes to ensure that he understands. "I regret last night so much, I don't know what was going through my head, trying to get you to drink. After everything you've opened up to me about your past, I'm an idiot for getting angry at you after I said I'd help you." A stray tear tumbles down his cheek as he remembers that the whole reason that they argued was because he wouldn't drink, yet he drunk anyways.

"Come here." She says, pulling him into a tight hug as he stretches across her body and buries his face in her shoulder. She strokes the back of his head while her other arm is wrapped around his body. She feels her shoulder become damp from his crying and he lifts his head up, gazing at her with puffy eyes. "I'm sorry." He says, his voice cracking slightly.

"Stop apologising!" She demands, "Let it all out!" She jokes, still holding his hand as he laughs slightly.

Eventually she gets up off the floor, helping Gerard up as well. She grabs the other bottle and immediately pours it down the drain, he watches her smiling as he can tell how much she wants to help him.

"Thank you." He says softly.
