AFTER having been left alone, (Y/N) tried to escape from the chains that were holding her down

AFTER having been left alone, (Y/N) tried to escape from the chains that were holding her down. Luckily, even though she relied on her Nen most times to get her out of binds, her physical strength was enough to snap the chains and release her. To the Phantom Troupe members, she made it look like she wouldn't be able to escape such bindings.

But she had always been a good actress.

Rubbing her wrists that were now bruised from the effort, she approached the metallic door that was keeping her within the room to find that it was also locked to prevent escape.

She exhaled softly.

Chrollo...

I truly pity you.

Since her Nen was no longer restricted, she structured a wispy portal of (F/C) mist which she could walk through, entering a space entirely fractured from the real world. Tools floated in the air, all sharp and some with flecks of dried blood on them, her scythe standing in the center of them all. But that wasn't what she was focused on, instead placing a hand out and creating another portal into York New City's center. Before she stepped through, she glanced back at the portal that was invisible to all but her still open in the dungeon's space.

Chrollo unlocked the door to the cell and stepped through to find the space empty, but he didn't seem all that surprised. His face was blank, as if he didn't feel anything. But when he grabbed the snapped chains, his grip tightened to the point that they crumbled in his palm, a slow rage consuming him until his vision was painted red.

"(Y/N)..." he muttered lowly, his entire body tense. "Why must you keep trying to leave me? No matter how far you run or how well you hide... I will merely just keep hunting you down."

(Y/N) stared at him.

Then, the portal closed with a wave of her hand.

Stepping forward through the York New City portal, she observed her surroundings. Spiraling towers that seemed larger than life loomed above her, the paned-glass windows glinting in the sun, many people streaming in and out of such buildings regularly. The crowded streets never seemed to wane, and to (Y/N), in the middle of such a mess, could only feel a headache slowly start to throb in the base of her skull. Ducking into one of the city's many back alleys, she sat down on a crate to collect herself.

I still feel so exposed.

This can't go on.

(Y/N) wasn't sure of anything in that moment as the arrival of Chrollo threw off many of her initial plans. She wondered if the threads of her fate were beginning to stretch almost so tight that they were close to their breaking point—that they were gathering into a ball so tightly onto to snap at the perfect moment.

She sighed.

I wouldn't mind it if I died.

After a thousand or so years, I need a rest.

Standing to her feet after regaining her bearings, running a hand down her arm that unveiled her scars. Pulling up another portal, she reached through and grabbed a spare cloak that she had always had with her. Slipping the dark mantle on, the weight of the fabric on her skin eliciting a calming effect over her, she slipped out of the alley and back out onto York New City's streets. She wished that the range of her portals was more spread out so it would be able to take her far away from such undesirable places.

It was almost boorish in her opinion how underwhelming the range of her portals was

Pushing such thoughts out of her mind, she continued walking down the streets whilst ignoring the occasional glances that she was given. Soon enough, she began to feel a gaze that continued to linger and wouldn't go away. Pinpointing where the person was, she disappeared into one of her portals and reappeared behind a rather familiar person on top of a large building.

"Illumi..." (Y/N) uttered, her expression completely blank yet even then, still able to feel somewhat surprised by his presence."

"I should have known that you would notice me," Illumi sighed as he stood up from the crouched position that he was in, his large black eyes gazing into hers with not a hint of remorse. "My mistake. Most of prey never notices until it's too late... but you are quite different."

"How did you even find me here?"

"I followed Hisoka," he blankly stated.

Ah...

That's right.

Hisoka is part of that Phantom Troupe.

If anything... he's probably the one that allowed Chrollo to find me. But then again, he doesn't seem like the type to willingly obey orders.

"I hate the idea of ever being separated from you, (L/N)," Illumi continued, taking a step towards her, his long black hair shifting in the breeze. "I didn't like it when you disappeared to Heaven's Arena, and I don't like it now when someone has taken you from me. I plan to observe you for a very long time, and if someone tries to get in my way, I will kill them for ever denying me."

"And?" (Y/N) tilted her chin upwards. "If I am the one who gets in your way, what then?"

"What do you mean?" He tilted his head, puzzled.

"Exactly as I said," she uttered. "Whether it's you, Hisoka, or Chrollo, I have no preference. I don't care for any of you or whether you live or die. I've already had to live my childhood years and longer serving a facility which treated me as a weapon. I am solely living my life to continue as I please with no attachments anywhere. That includes other people, no matter who they are."

Illumi blinked.

It was clear he wasn't expecting such a statement.

Staring at her with those dead, impassive black eyes of his, he seemed to be trying to search underneath the black shadow of her hood for something, anything, to contradict the words spilling from her mouth. After all, what he believed to be true was something that needed to be implemented into pure fact. For (Y/N), he was starting to loathe the way she didn't care.

It would mean she truly didn't care about him when all he cared about was her.
