"AH, there you are, my dear (L/N)," a familiar voice soon identified as Hisoka's filtered through (Y/N)'s and Illumi's ears the moment they both turned down the hall to where her room was, finding Hisoka leaning against the wall next to her a door flicking a card between his nimble fingers, a smirk on his lips. "Where were you, hm?"

"I had a fight," (Y/N) announced as she came to a stop before him, not really keen on opening her door so Hisoka could just barrel through. "Now, what do you want, Hisoka?"

"Nothing much," he shrugged, his eyes flicking towards Illumi. "How long were you with him?"

She sighed.

She didn't understand him.

Not in the least.

"Not long," she answered, hoping that doing so would get him to leave. "We met up after my fight since he had... a question."

She didn't elaborate further, nor did Illumi.

Slowly, Hisoka's smirk faded.

"I feel like this has been happening far too often, (L/N)—you spending time without me," he mused as he pushed himself off of the wall so he could lean down towards her, his eyes curving in what looked to be forced amusement. "See, aren't I always the one beside you? Why is it that you keep thinking of others when they aren't here? Why must I keep having to look for you, yet you never me, even when I find you. It's quite unfair, don't you think?"

A small twitch could be seen in his expression—a small hint of annoyance. It was always someone else, it was always someone other than him.

And he had never liked sharing.

"This isn't hide-and-seek, Hisoka," (Y/N) uttered, unamused.

"Isn't it, though?" He probed with a lighthearted shrug of his shoulders. "Why must we continue playing these games, (L/N)?"

"Not everyone has the time to play such games with you," Illumi answered for (Y/N) before she could even part her lips, his dark eyes boring into Hisoka's own. "I suggest you leave it at that."

"Oh?" Hisoka visibly reacted to that, almost as is it were a challenge. "Is that so?"

(Y/N) glanced back and forth between the two before summoning her mist and walking through to her room, making sure to fortify her door with a layer of her Nen before either of them could think of breaking in. Glancing at her window, remembering what Illumi had done to sneak in the last time, she made quick work of fortifying that too before closing the blinds. Stalking into the bathroom and closing the door, she stripped off her clothes and bandages before stepping into the shower.

On the other side of the door, both Hisoka and Illumi lingered, but it was Hisoka who placed a hand on the wooden frame. The thin piece of wood was the only thing separating him from (Y/N), but already he could tell she had melded her Nen into it to keep him out. Letting out a sigh, he couldn't understand how someone as cold as her had captivated his attention so easily.

Then again, perhaps it was that very coldness that now made him never want to let her go.

The more he thought about it, the more a dark, twisted side of himself clawed to be free. He knew something was different about (Y/N), and he could feel himself start to snap. No matter how many times he provoked her, no matter how many times he stayed beside her, and no matter how many times he tried to make it so she only saw him, it was never enough.

What would it take, then?

Would I have to completely eradicate the entire population?

Chain him up?

Cut off his legs?

What would it take for him to look only at me?

I'll have (L/N) eventually, and no matter what, nothing can stop me from taking him.

"Hisoka," Illumi spoke up from behind Hisoka, snapping him from his ever spiraling thoughts and allowing him to glance back to then look at the assassin fully. "(L/N) isn't someone to be taken lightly, nor will she ever be. It would be best if you quell whatever... thoughts you are currently experiencing lest you want to end up dead."

"Hm?" Hisoka filled turned around, his brows cinching as his smirk grew. "'Her?' Why ever would you refer to (L/N) as a 'her?'"

"...a slip of the tongue, is all," Illumi answered rigidly. "Just think about what I've said."

With that, he turned around and left.

Hisoka watched him go, his expression showing clear displeasure for the situation at hand. Not only did the hostility Illumi displayed for him stick into his mind, but his supposed 'slip of the tongue' did as well. Illumi hardly misspoke, and in those rare instances that he did, he wouldn't acknowledge it due to his overwhelming pride that inhibited him from doing so. His curiosity was growing, more so than he wanted it to considering he was getting no answers to his questions.

Grunting in distaste, Hisoka walked away from (Y/N)'s door.

There was a bad feeling that pricked at the corner of his mind that he couldn't rid himself of, something that irritated him to no end. No matter how he rolled it around in his mind, the feeling that something bad was about to happen nagged at him incessantly, prompting him to have much darker, and much more twisted thoughts about (Y/N) and what she actually meant to him.

He stopped walking.

Tilting his head, he snickered.

What (L/N) means to me?

He's nothing but some fun entertainment, right?

His smile tightened.

Right?

Laughing quietly to himself almost psychotically, his entire body practically trembling with trying to keep his chuckles contained, Hisoka pressed a hand over his mouth as he continued walking on. No matter what bad feeling was spurred on inside of him, he couldn't stop himself from feeling euphoria-type excitement building within him at a rapid pace.

Something bad was going to happen.

And he would revel in it.
