ILLUMI knew something was wrong the very first moment he realized that he always wanted to seek (Y/N) out. Since he had never felt such base desires before, it was a startling realization that made him all the more want to see why it was occurring. But the longer he spent with the strange enigma known as Reaper, the more drawn to her he felt.

Like he should always be beside her.

Maybe it was how menacing her aura was that attracted him to her.

Or maybe it was something else entirely.

He didn't know what it was, nor did he care, since all he really knew was that if he wasn't by her side, he would do pretty much anything to correct such a mistake. The fact that she was able to excite him to the extent that she did was abnormal in and of itself since for as long as he remembered, he could dispose of a person as easily as stepping on a bug. He never strayed from the path of an assassin or making others bend to his whims.

Yet, something was different with (Y/N).

For the first time in so long, something had sparked in his dead heart that made it beat quicker the first time he exchanged attacks with her.

It was as if a switch was flicked.

Suddenly, he found himself easily overwhelmed by her swift movements and deadly attacks, knowing that no matter what he did, he would always be beaten down by her hands. And instead of feeling bitter about this truth, he found himself somewhat elated since such a thing had never occurred. So, maybe that was made (Y/N) so interesting to Illumi, as even before when encountering her as Gittarackur, he was unable to assess her power.

She made him feel alive.

Fighting her made him feel alive.

And eventually, just engaging her in battle wasn't enough for him anymore.

He wanted all of her.

While (Y/N) distracted herself with Hisoka who was trying to lead her away from the battle with his sticky aura, Illumi then swept a pin his way that successfully embedded into his brain without either of them noticing before they disappeared around a pile of rubble. Even though he had known Hisoka for quite some time, all their relationship was was a "give-and-take" one, and had always assumed that one of them would wind up killing the other.

He would just make sure that he was the one still alive in able to obtain (Y/N).

And just like that, he flung his needles undetected into Gon's, Killua's, Kurapika's, and Chrollo's brains. Since these needles were so minuscule and subtle in ability and presence, not even the most revered Nen-user in the world would have been able to detect the needle or its effects.

Illumi had to be thorough.

Not one could slip from his grasp.

Just as Gon grasped his arm to try and break it like he did so long ago during the Hunter Exam, Illumi activated the trigger of his needles. Although the pre-set orders were a bit different for each person, they were essentially the same: stay away from (Y/N) and escape York New City. Since all were technically already violating his orders, a deep-set fear began to creep within.

"This..." Killua gasped, his entire body trembling as if a weight of multiple tons had set themselves on top of his shoulder, weighing him down and keeping him rooted to the spot. "This... can't be..."

Something was wrong.

His blue eyes rose to meet his brother's, but he saw nothing in Illumi's dark gaze.

Then, he left.

Gon, Kurapika, Hisoka, and Chrollo followed.

Willpower alone could not overpower Illumi's control, especially when he imbued so much of his own desire into making sure that they stayed under the control of his needles. To make sure (Y/N) was his and his alone, he had to take a few precautions.

"Speaking of..." he murmured as he turned and started approaching where he last saw her.

She also needed a needle.

No matter if she were being controlled or not, he would make sure that she was there, as she had been the one who had made him feel in the first place. She could call him a monster, a psychotic freak, a cold-blooded demon, and he wouldn't care since she was the very one that made him such things. Recently, all he did was to gain her affection and favor, craving nothing more than her attention since it would make him feel something.

Feel emotion.

And while at times he despised it, more often than not he was enthralled by it.

Illumi suddenly jerked back when (Y/N)'s scythe slammed down into the spot where he once was, the sheer force she placed behind the blade making the concrete crack. Slicking his black hair behind his shoulder, he stared at her for several moments, enjoying how even though there was power behind every attack, there was nothing reflected in her eyes—a sign of her detached memories.

Normally, he'd be irritated.

But now, she was a blank canvas—a mold which he could craft to his desire.

An eerie smile crept to his lips.

With little to no care about himself, he lunged forward and grabbed her scythe, ignoring how it sliced into his palm and spilt his blood. All that mattered was forcing the needle into her brain, and because he had been able to catch her off guard, he successfully initiated his plan. And just like that, she ceased fighting once he gave his commands.

"That's it..." Illumi whispered softly as he brushed back a strand of her hair. "Perfect..."

(Y/N) was completely his now.

Warping and crafting her mind to what he wanted, he withdrew both of them from society. He didn't want to take any chances of someone else stumbling upon her and stealing her away from him. What was more, there was always the chance that if one of those he put under his needle's control ignored his commands, they could locate where it was and extract it. Such possibilities were low, but they were still there.

"No one will find us..." Illumi whispered into (Y/N)'s ear as he cradled her close in the house he had chosen for them on the outskirts of a small town, "No one will find you. I'll kill all that you know, all that you love, until there is only me. It has been ordained."

She was his.

She was the one that made him feel.

So now her life was completely under his control until the end of time.
