"YOU shouldn't be here," (Y/N) began with a clipped tone bordering on rude.

"Well... I just wanted to see you again," Chrollo answered softly, his dark eyes boring into her own with the same intensity as she had remembered back when he was just a nineteen-year-old kid, a look that she had always thought someone so young shouldn't have. "Is that really so wrong?"

"Yes," she nodded stiffly, finding his devotion rather perturbing. "We parted evenly. You were the one who grew attached when I told you plainly I wouldn't stay."

"Ah... still the same old (N/N)," he sighed as he stepped closer to her, frowning when she only backed away. "You didn't have to help me back then, but you did. I opened myself up to you, I revealed to you secrets I would have taken to my grave, but what did you do? You abandoned me. I couldn't just let you go, though. You plagued my mind. It was insufferable. But then, I realized that I couldn't exist in a world without you by my side."

"A fantasy," she uttered lowly.

"Not to me."

Her eyes narrowed.

Just what is he up to?

As this question rang throughout her mind, Chrollo flicked with his hand for her to follow him as he turned to begin walking down the street. Watching as he did so, she found the uncanniness of the situation almost jarring as it reminded her so much of the past. Shoving the thoughts from her mind, she stalked after Chrollo. No words were exchanged between the two, a silence lingering between them that neither of them wanted to break.

"Here," Chrollo finally broke the quietness by holding up one of the dagger's she had thrown at him, the one with the single black diamond. "This is what you were looking at earlier, right? And... the one you tried to kill me with?"

He chuckled at that.

"I don't need it," (Y/N) rejected it.

"Hm... a shame," he mumbled as he further studied the blade with a finger to his chin before his eyes flicked upwards to meet her own under the shadow of her hood. "The craftwork is certainly one made by patient hands... as expected of someone with an impeccable taste like yours."

"I suggest you get to the reason as to why you're here rather than delaying it any longer," she spoke rigidly. "My patience is wearing quite thin."

"Well, it's true I am here because I missed you," Chrollo shrugged as he slipped the dagger into his jacket, the weapon disappearing into the folds of the clothing. "I've longed to see you again so badly, and now you're here in front of me. Truth be told... it's quite invigorating." Chuckling, his lips curving upwards, he continued, "Though... I am also here for confirmation. I've heard of this legend, something one could very much declare as just a myth."

Her stare followed him as he strolled along the various stalls, stopping and looking at nothing in particular. She couldn't help but conjure all different types of ideas of his purpose for finding her, all ending in one conclusion: chaos.

It made suspicions heighten.

"What legend are you speaking of?" She questioned, playing clueless for a reason. "There are many."

"One pertaining to the cloaked figure known as Reaper," he hummed, stopping in his tracks to turn and stare at her with wide eyes. "Though I'm sure you've personally heard the tale."

"No... I can't say that I have."

"You shouldn't lie, (Y/N)."

"I do not lie."

"Really?" Chrollo tilted his head, the globes on his ears dangling slightly with the action. "You said you would stay with me until I was healed, but you lied, because the moment you left, I was destroyed all over again. However, I was... elated to hear about you again from various rumors. Some were dead ends, but the ones that weren't led me straight to you."

"I'm surprised," she hummed whilst keeping her eyes on him. "Considering your actions up until now, I would've assumed you would kill me out of apogee. You never seemed to be the type to let go of personal grudges."

"I'm not," he smiled. "But, you're an exception since, well... you were my first companion."

"I doubt that."

"Think what you want, but let me tell you that I have always thought about you in that way, and that's never going to change," Chrollo proclaimed without a minute change to his expression, and unfortunately, (Y/N) couldn't find a single telltale sign that he was lying. "Now... the real reason why I found you again." Holding his hand out to her, he said, "I want you to come with me. I told you already... I can't have a world without you in it."

"You are caught up in the past, Chrollo," (Y/N) sighed, wondering where she went wrong in taking care of him when he was a boy. "We were nothing to each other then, and we are nothing to each other now. I don't need you."

Her words were searing, but he pushed on.

"I believe you are wrong," he merely stated, letting his hand drop but leaving his offer hanging delicately in the air. "Ever since I lost you, I've done everything I can to find you since you were the only thing that meant anything to me. And after seeing you now... I'd say all those years of searching was worth it."

"Charming, but ultimately futile," (Y/N) uttered with a lift of her chin, staring at him with no emotion. "I am not interested in involving myself with others. You best leave."

Why should I?

Why, when they'll all just die and leave me alone?

It isn't worth the suffering.

Turning on her heel, (Y/N) walked away from Chrollo, pushing down anything that might try to dissuade her in making this decision she knew was right. She had no need for anyone or anything now, and she made sure to keep up such a mentality but pushing away anyone who tried to creep too close. She could tell Chrollo was persistent, Hisoka and Illumi too, something that made her want to scoff since she had done everything she could to be rid of them without slipping into her old, murderous habits.

It was too much.

Too difficult.

Her lips twisted into a bitter frown.

Yeah.

It's not worth it.
