Mission imposible

You jumped at the sound of faint knocks on your door. Your body already seemed to be in an awakening state from sensing them.

It was the anbu.

"Yes?" You said rubbing your eyes tiredly. "The Hokage has requested you." A male voice said from the mask. He handed you a scroll before disappearing.

You quickly shut the door locking it and going back into your bedroom. You glanced at the note on your nightstand realizing Tobi must've left it.

You left a thought to look at it later as you opened the scroll. It was an escort mission.

It was for the daughter of some higher-up. She wanted to visit the neighboring villages and go see her friend who was in The Hidden Mist Village.

You ran a hand down your face and sighed. "Well fuck. Just when I thought the Hokage would stop giving me these simple missions."

You walked through the halls of the Hokage's tower with your hands in your pocket. "Y/n?" You raised your head and sucked in an annoyed breath.

"Kakashi." You blankly stared at him but not without feeling a sad tug at your heartstrings. He looked terrible, exhausted even.

Of course, you would notice it considering the time you two spent together. You knew him all too well as he did you.

Everything around the two of you stopped. His eyes held nothing but a slight glimpse of guilt. You brought yourself back to reality pushing past him only for him to follow you.

"Y/n-"

"Don't talk to me Kakashi Hatake" You didn't realize how harsh your words were until you said them. Not that you regretted it because it was what he deserved. For the longest you avoided him and now the two of you were standing in the slightly busy hallway.

Sure he went through a lot just as you did but that doesn't explain why you would do that to a person who loved you more than they loved themself.

"Please," He grabbed your arm making you shoot him a glare. "Just let me explain." You can't even lie but you almost gave in.

Keyword though...almost.

"I have somewhere to be." You coldly said.

Once you arrived at your destination, you raised your fist to knock on the Hokage's door and almost immediately you were granted permission.

You bowed in respect and she waved you off. "Hello Y/n, I take it as you are ready?" She said clasping her hands together.

"Yes ma'am." You said with a nod. "And Kakashi, you as well?"

"Yes ma'am." You slowly turned your head trying to bite back the scowl on your face. You could tell he was smirking behind the mask making your eye twitch.

You saw that the scroll said another ninja would accompany you but why him?

"The two of you are set to leave tomorrow morning at sunrise." She added.

"Lady Tsunade, if I may..." She sent you a nod. "Why the both of us? I mean-"

"The person who hired the leaf is paying a hefty some of money just for an escort job. However, I'm not sure why you specifically were requested so I assumed you either knew Hanami Ueno or they knew of your skills." She explained as Shizune handed her a paper. "And why Hatake?" You almost spat out.

"It was up for grabs and he offered to take the mission. Is there an issue?" She questioned looking up at the two of you. You forced a smile and shook your head. "Not at all, Lady Tsunade."

"Okay, you're dismissed." As soon as she said that you sped out the door. You hit a corner where no one was and sighed.

Fear struck through your body and the sudden man leaning on the wall beside you with crossed arms. "You can't keep avoiding me Y/n." He said looking around the hall.

"Why would you go and do that." You asked copying his stance. "Because I wanted a mission." He smugly said.

You clicked your tongue and shook your head.

Hopefully, this mission won't be as long... One can only hope.
