SHE LOST HER JOB
Mia's heart raced as she faced her furious boss, Christopher, whose anger was palpable. "You're fired!" he bellowed, dropping the bombshell. Fear gripped her, rendering her immobile. "Boss, I'm sorry, I can explain," Mia pleaded, but Christopher wouldn't budge. "That's all you ever say, and I'm sick of your lame excuses. I don't need any explanation from you, so get out of my office!" he retorted, his anger unabated.
Mia felt a wave of nausea wash over her, and her legs turned heavy, as if rooted to the spot. She went numb with shock, dragging her feet out of the office and the company. She cast a final glance at the building as tears streamed down her face.
Mia hailed a cab and soon found herself at Nora's mall, her best friend's sanctuary. Nora was busy instructing her workers when she spotted Mia standing outside, looking like a statue. She was taken aback by Mia's unexpected presence, as it was unusual for her to be out at this time of day. Nora stared at her for a moment before rushing out to envelop her in a warm hug. "Mia, I almost thought I saw your ghost! What's wrong? Come in and stop staring into space like a zombie."
Nora dragged Mia inside, concern etched on her face. "Mia, you need something strong, don't you?" she asked, noticing her friend's distress. "Nora, I need hard liquor, something potent," Mia finally spoke up, her voice laced with desperation.
Nora's expression turned angry. "What has that monster done to you this time? You're always covering up for him, Mia. If he eventually breaks your heart, I swear I'll break his legs!" Nora exclaimed before sending a worker to fetch alcoholic drinks. An uncomfortable silence fell between the two friends, Mia staring at her feet while Nora watched her with growing concern.
When the drinks arrived, Mia downed the contents in one swift motion, wincing as the liquor took effect. "Damn it! You're all so infuriating!" she cursed, feeling the alcohol coursing through her veins. "I love him, but he keeps hurting me, Nora. What should I do?" Mia cried out, frustration and despair etched on her face, as she hugged Nora tightly.
Nora's expression turned sympathetic, but also angry. "I've told you to break up with him, Mia. You always say love is blind, but who does that? You deserve better than this toxic relationship." Nora retorted, her voice laced with concern.
Mia's final words before passing out were, "Dylan, you son of a gun!" Nora shook her head, exasperated. "Who gets drunk in broad daylight?" she wondered aloud.
Nora arranged for one of her trusted workers to manage the mall the next day, then dragged Mia to her car and drove to her cozy apartment. Mia was still asleep, snoring softly. Nora rummaged through her hair, sighing in frustration, wondering what to do with her inebriated friend. As she removed Mia's heels, her phone rang, displaying "LOML" on the screen. Nora's expression turned icy. "That monster," she muttered before answering the call.
"Yes?" she said curtly.
"Mia, where the hell are you?" Dylan's voice shouted from the other end.
Nora's anger flared. "What did you do to my friend to leave her in such a state?" she retorted, her voice low and menacing.
Dylan's response was defensive, but Nora cut him off. "You owe me an explanation later, but for now, get lost, you motherfucker!" She ended the call, took a deep breath to calm herself, and gazed at Mia, still sleeping peacefully. "You've suffered so much because of that jerk, all in the name of love. I wonder how you can be so madly in love with that psychopath," Nora sighed, shaking her head.
Mia, a stunning 23-year-old, embodied the essence of beauty. Her tall, slender figure, brown wavy hair, Greecian nose, and thin pink lips made her a captivating sight. Her voluptuous body turned heads, leaving men enchanted. But Mia's beauty extended beyond physical appearance; she had a kind heart, touching the lives of those around her.
As the eldest child and only daughter of her widowed mother, Mrs. Miller, Mia took on the responsibility of caring for her family. Despite her mother's tireless efforts at their restaurant, Mia ensured her younger brother, Alvin, and mother were well-provided for.
In college, Mia met Nora, and their friendship blossomed. Mia's intelligence and beauty made her a standout, and she selflessly helped Nora overcome academic challenges. Nora, an only child of wealthy Mr. Allaband, had lost her mother at a young age. Mia's kindness and brains forged an unbreakable bond between the two friends.
Mia's relationship with Dylan, whom she met in her final year of college, was a different story. Initially friends, they became lovers, despite Nora's disapproval. Dylan's overprotectiveness and jealousy often caused friction, but Mia was smitten.
Nora's nostalgic smile, reminiscing about college days with Mia, was interrupted by a sudden knock on the door. "What the hell!" she exclaimed, jolting Mia awake from her slumber.
