“For decades, Noiam Industries has been one of Thailand's leading companies in retail, development and export. The vision of an…”
Orm watched the presentation quietly in her seat among the rows of newly hired employees of Noiam. They were at an amphitheater-type conference hall at the HQ. The lighting was dim to highlight the video being played on the huge LED television in front. She looked around but had not seen any familiar faces, not that she knew anyone from their place working under this company. This would be her first time working in a corporate field like this. Sure, their family owned their own business, but it was small compared to Noiam.
“I heard Khun Sirilak will be here at the ceremony, but I haven't seen her.”
“Me too.”
Orm overheard the conversation of the two persons beside her. Seemed like they admired Lingling so much like she did. She even heard that the other one turned down the offer of another company to work under Lingling. At the back of her mind, she wanted to tell them how rude she truly was, but on the other hand, she couldn't help but give her the benefit of the doubt.
“Now, let's hear a few words from our Vice Chairwoman and CEO of Noiam Foods, Khun Sirilak Kwong.”
As soon as Lingling stood up, Orm heard quiet cheers of excitement around her. She was still disappointed with how the older girl treated her during dinner, but she couldn't help but admire her beauty once again. Today, Lingling wore an all-white outfit—pants, blazer and top. Her silky hair was wavy this time, one side tucked behind her ear just like when they had dinner.
As Lingling was adjusting the microphone, more conference room lights turned on. She quietly scanned the crowd before speaking. “Good morning…”
Her voice was calm, Orm noted. She stood in confidence and elegance as she spoke to the crowd just like when being interviewed in the news. At her age, she has already accomplished a lot. Despite the initial rudeness she showed, Orm still admired her for it. It felt surreal to think that the woman speaking in front of everyone would be her wi—
“I haven't said yes.”
“Right.” Orm mouthed. She looked down and smiled. Plai told her that their family would keep their word, but if Lingling wouldn't want to marry her, then she couldn't do anything about it.
“...Thank you for choosing Noiam Industries. Welcome to Noiam, everyone. Let's all work hard.”
Orm didn't notice that Lingling's speech was already done if not for her seatmates applauding her. Swiftly, she lifted her head, but when she did, she saw Lingling eyeing her, or so she thought. She watched her greet the higher-ups on stage before going down. She noticed that Lingling was about to sit down, but the woman who she assumed to be her secretary told her something that made her stand up again and leave.
After the orientation, Orm proceeded to the Research and Development Department of Noiam Foods. It was in the same building as the conference hall, but on the 7th floor. With her was a representative from HR and another new employee, a girl with curly hair and slender figure, shorter but almost the same height as her.
“Sawasdee kha.” Orm tried to greet her, but the girl only glanced at her. She wanted to roll her eyes, but settled with a smile.
Once they reached the office, the HR introduced them to the old employees. He reiterated the important points during orientation before leaving them. As lucky as it was, the heavens heard her prayers because one of the seniors at the R&D Department was her senior from Buriram.
“N'Orm!”
“P'Jaja!” Orm nearly exclaimed but covered her mouth. Jaja, already in her coat, hugged her for a moment.
