"Does she always take the parking lot exit?” Lingling asked Kiet, legs crossed underneath the huge mahogany table in her office. She just got back from Chiang Mai and this was the first thing she did upon arriving at the company.
“Yes, N'Orm requested to be dropped off and picked up at the parking lot.”
Lingling nodded. The first time they went to work together, Orm went out immediately and didn't even wait for her. She thought it didn't mean anything, but then maybe she felt uncomfortable being seen with her. Why? She asked herself. Or maybe, she upset her about something. “I see. What time is she supposed to fly back later?”
“Around 5:30 if I'm not mistaken. They would probably arrive at 7PM.” He answered and got a nod in response. After that, Lingling didn't say anything else. “Do you need anything else, Nong?”
Lingling hummed, looking down on the files in front of her as if she was deciding what to say next. She looked up at him again, hands clasped on the table. “That’s all, uncle. I'll be the one to pick up N’Orm at the airport later, so you can go home now.”
Kiet was caught off guard. Lingling told him to come up to her office to talk about something important. In addition to that, she told him to see her immediately. For a second, he thought it was about something emergent. “Alright. I guess I will be going now, Nong.”
There was nothing else said then. Lingling only nodded before returning to work.
Looking at the young CEO with amusement, Kiet could only shake his head lightly before exiting the room.
As soon as the door shut, Lingling leaned against her chair. ‘Do I make her feel uncomfortable or was she upset again?’ She tried to recall if she did anything to upset her, but couldn't remember anything. The last time they talked was during their wedding rehearsal at the hotel rooftop. After that, they would pass by each other in the hallways and would nod at each other for acknowledgement. ‘She couldn't possibly be upset about that, right?’ She leaned against her table then, hands clasped in front of her face. “Huh.” For some reason, she was bothered by it. The next thing she knew, she had called her secretary in.
“Yes, Khun Lingling?”
Lingling furrowed her brows. She didn't even know why she felt the need to. “Reserve a table at Blue please.”
“For…”
“Just two.”
Nene pursed her lips. Was it for the person she was thinking of? She asked herself. “For you and Khun Kornnaphat?”
“Yes.” Lingling nodded, her face remained stoic.
The secretary smiled then, she had to bite her lip to not smile so big. “That's noted.” She replied. “Is there else you need, Khun Lingling?”
“No, that's all. Thank you.”
And so, Nene left the room. As soon as she got out, she covered her mouth to prevent a squeal. “Okay. Okay.” She straightened her back and went to her desk. “Table for two for the boss and her future wife.” She giggled.
Past 6 o'clock in the evening, Lingling drove to the airport in a different car. She first went to buy some snacks at the drive-thru then parked near the exit of the arrival area. She leaned against her seat while reading and rereading the last message from Orm.
From: Kornnaphat
We'll leave at 5:30Orm might really be upset, she thought. It was a one liner reply which was unusual. Also, she didn't use any emojis or followed it with ‘55555’. But why?
