It was around thirty minutes before four in the morning when Koy woke up to an empty bed. She went down and saw her husband by the dining table, glasses on, reading various business documents like he had been doing so since they returned from Bangkok.

“Ton?”

Ton lifted his gaze to her and smiled. “Ah, teerak. It's still early. Go back to sleep.”

As always, the softness of her husband's voice made her smile. She then went to approach him, enveloping her arm around his shoulder. “You're thinking about Orm, are you?”

Ton was quiet for a moment before letting out a sigh. “Please tell me we're still doing the right thing.” He looked up at his wife, eyes reflecting uncertainty and somewhat guilt.

“It's Orm's decision to go through with it, teerak. I am worried too, but our daughter is old enough and smart enough to choose for herself.” Koy said, offering some consolations.

“I know.” Ton put his hand over Koy's on his shoulder. “I just can't help but worry. You know Orm is our angel. In a week, she will be living with Khun Lingling. What if she doesn't treat her right?” He then rubbed his forehead. “If only our family doesn't need them.”

Koy's lips formed a sympathetic smile. “I'm sure she won't. She seems like a nice girl, and I know Orm won't let anyone treat her badly.” She answered, but her husband couldn't help but still worry  about their only girl. “And if ever something happens, our daughter knows she will always have a family she can get back to.”

Ton gave her a weak smile. He could only pray Orm would be treated well by her future wife.

Sunday, Orm woke up feeling recharged. As soon as she got home yesterday, she texted Lingling that she had safely arrived and got another thank you in return. Yawning, she stretched her arms and neck, but perhaps too much that she groaned in pain. “Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.” It took a while before the pain subsided but not fully. ‘Ay, Orm!’ She scolded herself, moving her neck a bit from side to side, as she jumped out of her. “Aww.”

On the pin board across the room, she looked at her schedule for the day—Lingling's printed wedding preparation schedule now decorated with colorful scribbles and drawings on the side. “Wedding dress.” She read. She then went to look at herself in the mirror. “I'm gonna get married in a week…Oh.” She tilted her head to the side as she scanned her body. “I should have gone on a diet.” She sighed.

After preparing, Orm went down. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, her eyes landed on the person sitting on the sofa, back turned on her. “P'Lingling?”

But it wasn't Lingling.

“Ah. Orm, hi!” It was Lingling'a younger sister, Film.

“Sawasdee kha, Film!” Orm gave her a smile before approaching Film who has been friendly since the dinner. She was then welcomed by a hug. “Sorry, I thought you were your sister.” She said with an apologetic smile.

“P'Lingling already went dress shopping with Namtan yesterday.” Film replied, but then realized Orm might have been clueless so she added, “I meant, with my girlfriend—”

“Yesterday?” Orm was perplexed.

Film confirmed it with a nod. “We thought it would be exciting if you guys went separately for you know…element of surprise and P'Lingling agreed so….” Shrugging, she giggled a bit. “But don't worry, Orm, I'm sure you'll love my sister's dress. I already saw it.”

‘I think Lingling Kwong will look stunning no matter what she wears.’ The thought of Lingling in a dress, much more on a wedding dress, was already captivating. Orm was about to nod, but, ‘Wait a damn minute! That's not what I meant.’ She furrowed her brows. “But she was just sick the other day.”
