Chapter 5:

I watched the main door until he was out of sight and then glanced up at my mother and father who were walking over to me looking quite relived.

"Thank goodness he's gone; he must really like you he talked to you for a while." My mother said nudging me with a smile on her face. "Plus he gave you his number, but he did it slyly." My mother added still grinning.

I looked over at my dad who had a grimace on his face.

"Why'd you ask if he lived around here? He's too old for you." My father asked making my eyes bulge.

"Uh, I just wanted a, uh, another friend I only have one." I admitted.

It was so embarrassing that they had overheard all of our conversation.

My father nodded slowly before a look of disbelief washed over his face.

"I promise." I said defending myself.

My father just shook his head, I suppose he was disappointed or something.

With my mother smiling at me didn't help the fact that I was blushing, actually it made it worse.

"What?" I asked with my head down.

I could still feel my mother smiling at me when my father added.

"Why was he asking you if you could show him around? I don't like the idea of that." My father said bluntly.

I just scratched my head and snatched a magazine from the table beside me.

Looking on the front cover I saw a beautiful woman with her hand on her hip, she had short blonde hair and brown eyes and she was wearing a very pretty colorful dress.

It was a spring magazine so that explained the spring looking dress the lady was wearing.

After staring at the cover for a moment or two and reading all the things on the front I flipped it open to the front page.

It was a baby's feet, you could tell because the toes were super squished looking.

That baby girl was wearing a beautiful white pair of strappy sandals.

There were all sorts of very cute baby's and children in the magazine and my mother and I awed at all of them.

I wanted a little brother so bad.

Even if it wasn't a boy if it was a girl I'd be just as happy, I just wanted someone to hang out with.

My friend Heather had left for the week to go camping with her mother Sara, Heather's mother and father split up when Heather was three.

Heather never met her father but Sara said that he was abusive, so Sara called the police one night right after he beat her and they arrested him, because they saw the bruises on her neck and face.

Sara also had a video from a secret camera she set up one day of him punching her, and if she hadn't done that then he wouldn't be in prison right now.

I think it really messed Heather up because she didn't have a dad growing up, and it messed Sara up too because she had to raise Heather on her own. Sara had Heather when she was 18.

I felt bad for Heather and Sara.

"Nadine Morgan!" A voice called as I looked over at my mother with widened eyes.

"Come on, it's alright." My mother said flashing me a sympathetic smile.

I closed the magazine and put it back on the wooden table before slowly standing up and slowly walking to the door that the nurse was holding open.

God have mercy on me.

I thought as I slowly stepped inside.
