Chapter 9:
The smell of cologne and hair gel filled the room all of a sudden.
I looked to the left of me because I heard someone say my name.
"Hey, what are you doing here? You just couldn't stay away could you?" Mason asked crossing his arms and smiling.
I smiled a little.
"It's not that, I needed to do some things for my father." I said biting the inside of my cheek.
"Oh, so this has nothing to do with you finding out I was a mail carrier this morning?"
"No." I told him as he raised an eye brow in disbelief. "No." I repeated smiling a little.
"Right, I thought you didn't want a boyfriend." He said making my face heat up.
"I don't just a- just a friend." I stuttered.
"Ah, I see." He said turning to leave.
"Please don't go." I blurted just as my eyes got huge.
He turned back around smirking deviously.
"Uh, do you still want to know where taco bell is?" I asked him smiling a little.
He shrugged with a smile on his face also.
"I can show you later, but I'm going to need a ride." I told him shyly.
"No problem." He said. "Pick you up later at 4." He said making my heart skip a beat. I had been waiting a long time for a guy to say that, even though it wasn't a date it still made me happy.
I smiled at him as I handed him the two envelopes and he walked away.
I made my way outside and waited for my father to arrive.
Sitting on the curb I waited with my chin in my hand.
10 minutes passed by and my father was finally back.
"Hey, sweetie sorry it took so long." He told me as I stood up.
I shrugged.
"It's alright." I told him.
I got into the car and shut the door as he put the keys in the ignition.
Looking the other way to try to hide my smile my father spoke.
"What is it?" He asked curiously.
I turned to face him still smiling.
"Oh boy." My father said sighing heavily.
After telling my father I agreed to go out with "Ben" that night at 4, my father decided that he would have "the talk" with me on the way home. Which I had heard many times, I guess he just wanted to have it fresh in my mind when I saw "him" again.
As my father pulled into the drive way my father gently grabbed my arm.
He smiled and put his arms out for a hug.
I leaned in giving him a hug.
He exhaled sharply into my hair as he squeezed me a bit.
"I love you dad." I told him.
"Love you too." He said in a whisper before kissing the top of my head.
He let go of me as I pulled away and smiled at him.
I stepped out of the car and walked up the drive way and to the steps that led to the front door.
"Mom!"
That was the first thing I said when I stepped inside.
"In my room!" My mother called back right away.
I made my way up the staircase and into my parents' room.
"What is it hunny?" My mother asked as I watched her for a minute or two folding clothes that were in a white basket on her bed.
"Nadine?" My mother said as she stopped folding for a moment and watched me closely.
"Huh?" I asked after a second of staring at the floor.
"What were we talking about?" I asked her very confused.
She tilted her head
"You just ran up here and wanted to tell me something, we weren't actually having a conversation or anything." My mother said.
"Hmm, don't remember, probably will later." I said shrugging again.
"Love you." I said as I turned around.
"Love you too."
I heard my mother say before I started walking towards my bedroom door.
When I made it there I opened it and went inside.
Slowly closing it behind me I went over to my bed and laid in it.
Glancing at the clock and seeing it was 12 I closed my eyes.
When I opened my eyes again I looked around, it was 3:30.
Was there somewhere I was supposed to be?
I asked myself.
After thinking for a few minutes I shrugged.
"Hmm guess not." I said to myself.
There was a knock at my bedroom door just then.
"Come in." I answered quickly.
My father came in looking puzzled.
"Did you cancel or something?" He asked crossing his arms.
"Cancel what?" I asked confused.
"You were going out with Ben tonight." He said as my eyes got as big as basket balls.
My hand clamped over my mouth and I screamed.
I had totally forgot and I only had 25 minutes to get ready.
"I forgot!" I told him.
My father winced and then chuckled.
I frowned at him and his face went blank.
"Can you go out so I can get dressed?" I asked him as he nodded.
I hopped in the shower cleaning every inch of my body, including my hair.
I quickly got out slipping on my robe and looking at the clock.
It was 3:40.
20 minutes left.
Would I have enough time?
