Chapter 36: The Appointment
Nadine's POV:
"Hunny, are you ready?" My mother called through the door.
"Almost mom." I called back.
I slipped my coat and shoes on and then opened my door to see my mother at the top of the staircase.
"I'm ready." I told her.
I would've put my hair up but there wasn't much to put up anymore, it was almost gone, it had been a while since I started chemotherapy, and the appointment that day was supposed to be a checkup to see if the chemotherapy was helping, I had a cat scan a few days before too.
So I shaved it off, the little bit I had left and I cried when I did.
Then I went downstairs and when my parents saw me they flashed me a sympathetic smile.
When we got there, after waiting for a long time we were called back into the room.
"Dr. Woods will be in shortly." A nurse said before shutting the door.
I sat there fidgeting with my hands until finally she came in.
"Hello." She said.
"Hi." I answered shaking her extended hand.
"Nadine, I'm afraid I have bad news to tell you." She said.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I forced them to stay in and not run down my face.
"How long?" I asked biting my quivering lip.
"2 months max, I'm very sorry." She said.
"NO!" My mother and father said
"There is-"
I gasped and covered my mouth and let the tears run free.
I ran out of the room and into the bathroom.
Holding my stomach I tried not to puke.
It came up anyway.
My mother rushed in.
"Hunny-"She started but when she saw me she grabbed paper towels and wiped off my mouth.
She grabbed me and held me close and both of us just cried.
"Don't leave, you're going to be ok." She reassured me.
"Let's go talk to the doctor we will find a solution to this sweetie." She said crying.
She wiped my tears and I wiped hers.
We left the bathroom and both walked back into the room to talk to the doctor.
"There is a surgery you can have done; we will try to get the tumor out." She said to us.
"Well, let's do it, what's the problem?" I said.
My mother and father looked at each other and then looked at the doctor.
"It's very small possibility you will survive through the surgery." She told me.
"What???" My mother asked frantically putting her hands on her face.
"I'll do it." I said quickly.
My mother and father looked over at me like I was crazy.
There was a small chance, a chance I was willingto take to make my dreams come true
