Chapter 40:
Nadine's POV:
It was sunny the morning 4 days before my surgery and I was getting so scared and nervous.
Is he going to be there?
I think it would really calm me down. I thought.
Sitting on my bed with my arms wrapped tightly around my knees in front of me, I rocked back and forth slightly, trying to calm myself down.
"What if he's not there because of Elaine?" I asked myself, biting my lip.
"Oh god." I said, before lying back on my bed.
I covered my eyes and started crying.
There was a knock at my door.
"Who is it?" I asked, wiping my tears away.
"It's mom." My mother said, opening the door.
"Hunny, are you ok? You've been staying in your room all the time since the appointment and sleeping all day long." She said, sadly.
"I just- I don't know if I can go through with the surgery." I said, looking at her, and then covering my eyes and crying again.
"Come here." She said, pulling my arm.
I sat up and laid my head in her lap.
Looking up at her I saw up her nose and as she looked down at me, her nose flared in and out as she talked and I smiled a little.
"I love you sweetie." She said, rubbing her hand up and down my bald head.
"I'm gonna die aren't I?" I asked her, sadly.
"No, you are going to be fine." She said her voice cracking.
She sounded so sure until her voice cracked, and that scared me.
"Hunny, I know something that will cheer you up." She said, patting my leg.
"What?" I glumly replied.
"Let's go get you a wig." She said.
I looked at my mom as if she were crazy.
"What? That's supposed to cheer me up?" I replied, confused.
"Yeah, let's go." She said, smiling.
"Mom, no, it'll be so embarrassing!" I said.
"No, it won't, as soon as you started losing your hair everything went south; I think this could turn things around."
I paused for a while.
"Ok, mom." I said, standing up.
So we went to the store and we were looking for the right wig for a while and then we found one that looked like my real hair.
"This one." I said, trying it on.
"Ok!" My dad said smiling.
So we bought it and when we were on the way home we picked up a few tubes of special hair adhesive.
When we got home, I immediately thanked my parents and went up to my room.
I took a shower, and then when I got out, I put the glue and wig on.
Putting a red dress of my mothers' on I started to dance to Beethoven.
Someone knocked on my door and I told them to come in.
I stopped dancing and looked at my father, smiling.
"You look beautiful." He said teary eyed.
"What is it dad?" I asked him, smiling.
"I haven't seen you look so happy in a long time." He said.
I frowned.
"I know dad, I'm sorry I've been so gloomy." I told him, sighing.
"It's alright, you don't have to apologize." He said, pulling me in for a hug.
"I love you too dad." I said, smiling, before he kissed my head.
"Mom, says you need a partner and I was thinking.." He started.
I smiled graciously.
"I'd love for you to be my partner dad." I said, hugging him again.
I pulled away and he put his hand on my waist as I danced. After I spun around, I looked up at him, and his lip was quivering.
I smiled and kept dancing.
"That was really good." He said when I finished.
We practiced a lot that day and I was super tired.
When it was about 11 I went to bed.
Tomorrow would be 3 days.
The wait was killing me.
