Chapter 17:

We walked for a while and I laid my head on his arm as we walked.

My phone started ringing and knowing it was my mom I picked it up.

"Hi mom." I answered as my mother gasped into the phone.

"Thank goodness, hunny where are you?" My mother asked.

"I'm with Ben." I answered.

"Ok, well please let me know next time you want to hang out with Ben ok?" My mother said sniffling.

"Yeah, sure I'm sorry mom." I answered.

"It's alright, I'll see you when you get home, don't stay out too long." My mother said before hanging up.

I put my phone away and laid my head on Mason's arm again.

'This is nice.' I thought.

I liked being with Mason so much.

He was such a great guy.

I had feelings for him that I never had for anyone else.

We sat down on a park bench after a while, but we were still holding hands.

"I like you a lot Nadine. I think that you are so beautiful and you are very bright. You have potential, and you are catching on so quickly to the dance lessons. I only had one lesson with you and I already realized that. You are amazing." He said kissing my cheek.

"Thanks, I like you a lot too Mason. You have potential also. I know you may have never been told that, or felt like it but you do. You're amazing too." I said smiling a little.

I leaned in and kissed his lips.

He made my heart race.

He made me feel so good inside.

Almost forgetting about all my troubles I pulled away from his lips.

"What is it?" He asked me confused.

"I know you say that there's still hope, and that I shouldn't give up, but I can't help but think that I'm going to lose you." I said. "Or that you're going to break my heart and I'll be a broken hearted dancer."

"You won't lose me, and I won't break your heart, even though that would make you a better dancer." He said smiling a little.

"Mason?" I said as he frowned.

"Kidding." He said before his face went serious. "I promise, I won't break your heart, and I promise you won't lose me." He said.

"I'm going to tell you something about me." I said as he looked at me suspiciously.

I tried to keep from laughing because his eyebrow was raised really high and it looked funny.

"You're the first boyfriend I've ever had and the first boy I ever kissed." I said biting my lip.

"Oh, that explains why you bit my tongue." He said before my face heated up.

I laughed out loud looking the other way.

"Just kidding." He said as I laughed again.

I play punched him in the arm after that and frowned at him.

"Don't joke about something like that." I said smiling.

"Oh but you were trying to keep from laughing when I put my tongue in your mouth." Mason said. "You didn't know what to do at first did you?" He added laughing.

"No." I answered embarrassed as he laughed harder.

I laughed a little bit and then when he stopped laughing I looked at him.

"Do you want to have dinner with me tonight?" He asked me smiling.

I bit my lip.

"I'd love to." I answered with a smile.

"Good, I'll pick you up at 6:45 sharp." He said.

"It's late, should I take you home?" He asked.

"Yeah, but where are you taking me?" I asked curiously.

"It's a surprise." He said as I smiled.

"I like surprises." I said grinning.

"Good." He said before standing up.

We walked to his car and we both got in.

We got in the car and he started to drive me home.

"Mason, did you ever have dreams of being a dancer?" I asked.

He looked at me and then looked ahead of him and sighed heavily.

"Yes, I have, when I was a child, but my father told me that it wasn't possible because of my schizophrenia. I was on medicine; I never understood why that disease would be in the way of my dream if I was staying on the medicine. My mother agreed with him about that, my father said I should find a practical job. A job that was at home, so no one would see me acting crazy and saying I saw someone when I didn't." He said shaking his head.

"Do you still have schizophrenia?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah, I'm still on medicine though." He said.

"Oh." I said.

He looked over at me and stared at me for a minute.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Does that make you not attracted to me?" He asked me before I bit my cheek.

Why did he care if that did or not?

"No, it doesn't bother me." I answered quickly.

"Really?" He asked with a smile as he looked at me again.

"Yeah." I answered. "What's the big deal, why are you looking at me like that?" I asked.

"Well, sometimes girls don't want to date me because they think I'm crazy, and that doesn't bother you and that makes me happy." He said with a smile. "Thanks." He added.

"Oh, well, no problem." I said smiling.

"See you later?" I asked as he parked outside my house.

"You bet." He said winking at me.

I leaned in giving him a quick kiss and then I jumped out of the car.

He started driving away when I yelled out "Thanks Mason!"

"No prob!" He yelled out, smirking.

I laughed and waved at him before walking up the stairs to the front door.

Opening the door I found my mother and father sitting at the table together with a cup of coffee in their hands.

I ran immediately upstairs and into my room.

Lying down I closed my eyes and pretended it was all a dream.

I thought about what Mason said that there was still hope.
