Chapter 35:
Mason's POV:
I got out of the car after parking in the driveway and started walking down the sidewalk with my hands in my pockets.
Then I heard Nadine's front door open.
"You need a ride home Mason?" I heard Nadine's father ask me.
I guess she didn't tell him.
I looked up at her bedroom window and saw her silhouette walking past it.
"Sure Mr. Morgan, thank you." I said.
I walked over to the car again and got in the passenger seat.
He got in the drivers' side and started the car.
"Join me for a smoke?" He asked me lighting his cigarette.
"No, sir, I don't smoke." I said.
"Hmm." He said blowing out smoke.
He pulled out of the driveway and before he started on the road he locked the doors.
I looked at him gulping.
He just kept his eyes on the road.
He kept blowing smoke everywhere and I could barely breathe.
The truth was, when I was little my dad would blow smoke in my face, and I had asthma so it made me have asthma attacks.
It's not as bad now and I haven't had one since I was 13, but I could just feel my lungs closing up.
"Can we open a window sir?" I asked him.
"Nah, it's raining." He said turning toward me and blowing smoke in my face.
I started breathing really hard and wheezing.
Finally he arrived at my house.
"Mason?" He asked me.
I looked at him and he punched me in my face so hard I thought my eye was going to explode.
"Ahh!" I said holding my throbbing eye.
I looked him in the eyes and I could tell by his face that he knew I did something.
He got out and went over to my side.
"She told you?" I asked.
"Nope, just fatherly instinct."
He jerked me out of the car and threw me to the ground.
"I'm sorry, I never meant to hurt her it's just when I saw Elaine again I just-"
"The lawyer?" Mr. Morgan asked.
"You really are a worthless piece of nothing!" He said kicking me right in the gut.
He got back in the car and drove away.
I got up and walked up the steps to my house hunched over.
When I got inside I put ice on my eye and stomach and went upstairs and laid on my bed.
A figure from the corner of my eye moved towards me.
"Elaine, what are you doing here? How have you been?" I asked.
I expected to see her at my house sooner or later.
"Lonely." She said pouting her huge lips.
She was in a red silky robe.
She laid down on her back, on the bed and looked up at me.
"I have to take a shower; do you need to get in there for anything?" She asked biting her lip.
