Chapter 24:
Turning my tv off with the old fashioned loose knob that was on the side I let out a long yawn and sleepily walked over to my bathroom and started getting ready for bed.
10 minutes later I walked out of the bathroom dragging my feet the whole way to my bed.
Laying down I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
The next morning I awoke to my father's angry face hanging over me.
I gasped, and pushed myself up on my elbows.
"Mason Henry Campbell, 22 years old, charged with stealing a red Ferrari F430 and breaking into a teenage girl's home when her parents weren't there." My father said holding out a paper that had a mug shot of Mason looking a lot less attractive and much older.
"No." I said chuckling nervously. "That can't be him." I said shaking my head.
"It is him hunny, and I told you to stay away from him, I knew he was trouble." My father said angrily.
"Daddy that's not him, it can't be, Mason isn't like that." I said starting to cry.
Way deep inside I knew it was him, I just couldn't make myself believe it, I didn't want to believe it.
I brought my knees up in front of me and hugged them.
My father sighed. "Nadine." He said touching my knee.
I looked up at him sadly.
"I'm still very upset with you for disobeying me but I wanted to apologize for hitting you last night, and I want you to know that I am always here for you." He said putting his arms out wide.
I reached too and hugged him, crying on his shoulder.
"I love you dad, and I'm really sorry I lied to you and went behind your back, I will never do it again I promise!" I said continuing to cry.
"I forgive you hunny, but you are still punished, you know that right?" He asked me pulling away and rubbing my face gently.
"Yeah, dad, I don't ever want to see him again anyway. He lied to me." I said wiping away my tears.
"I'm sorry he lied to you, but sometimes that's the thing with dating an older person, they feel they have the advantage, they feel like they can lie to you and you won't realize because you're young." He said looking the other way.
"It sounds like you know from experience." I said curiously.
"Yeah, I dated a girl named Karolyn who was 17 and I was 13. She lied and said she was younger, but I lied and said I was older so it wasn't that bad."
"But what really hurt me in the end was that she was dating someone else."
"She thought she could lie to me."
"I figured out because one morning I called her home phone and a young guy answered saying."
"Yo, who is this speaking?" My father said in a sort of gangster sounding voice.
"And I answered by saying...this is Karolyn's boyfriend may I speak with her?" I asked but he claimed that he was her boyfriend and I asked Karolyn about it and she admitted it, she didn't deny it for a minute."
"After that I broke up with her, I didn't want to date someone who was a liar and my friends told me I shouldn't date someone older."
"My friends were the only people I told about dating someone older; I never uttered a word to my parents." My father confessed.
"But you know what?" My father said after a little while.
I had looked down when he had stopped talking but once he started talking, I looked him in the eyes again.
"What?" I asked quietly.
"After I broke up with her, it was really hard, but, I moved on, and got married to my high school sweetheart." My father said smiling.
Even I, with as sad as I had been I smiled too.
"Mom." I said grinning.
He smiled, and nodded to confirm it.
"So do you get what point I'm trying to get to?" He asked me patting my shoulder.
"Yeah, dad." I answered my smile fading.
I had to move on, it would be very hard but I had to do it, Mason lied to me and now he was going to pay. I wasn't going to see him ever again and, boy Mason sure did deserve it.
