Chapter 30:
We made our way back to the house and Mason wasn't there.
"Mason?" I yelled opening the back door.
My mother walked around the car and wrapped her arm around my waist and helped me to the front door.
"Mason? Where are you?" I yelled again.
I froze when I saw the folded piece of paper on the counter.
I sat down at the table after grabbing the note.
Unfolding it I looked at the words.
It said.
"Dear, Nadine I wanted to tell you so you wouldn't be worried. I left, I didn't want to get arrested, I'm sorry I couldn't say goodbye in person but I'm not good at goodbyes. Goodbye Nadine, I love you. Just remember you'll always be my baby."
He called me Baby sometimes because I liked Dirty Dancing so much.
"What does it say?" My mother asked as tears started welling up in my eyes.
I looked at her and then looked at the paper and ripped it in half then I ripped it again and again, until it looked like it went through a paper shredder.
"He left!" I screamed.
I started crying and my mother looked at me sympathetically and then pulled me in for a hug.
How could he do that to me?
Just then the door opened.
It was...
My father?
I guess inside I had hoped that it was going to be Mason, but I was happy to see my father.
"Hey dad." I said trying to sound cheery.
I was happy he was home but I had just been crying so my eyes were puffy.
"Hey, hunny."
"Nadine what happened to your leg???" My father asked.
All of a sudden a lump formed inside my throat and I tried to swallow it but it was just sitting there yelling "Tell him the truth! Tell him the truth!"
"It was a bicycle accident." I answered and my mother looked at me with her eyes widened.
She sighed as my father looked at her angrily.
"She just wanted to get out of the house. She wasn't going to see Mason." My mother said.
"How do you know that she wasn't going to see Mason?" My father asked angrily.
"I-" My mother started.
"What?!?!" My father asked loudly.
"I don't."
"That guy is bad news, he's too old for her, and she's not allowed to see him. OR LEAVE THE HOUSE WHICH YOU LET HER DO!" My father yelled.
He just stood there continuing to talk bad about Mason and I stopped him.
I may have been so mad at him for leaving without saying goodbye but I still loved him.
"He saved my life dad!" I screamed interrupting my father.
He looked over at me with his eyes bugged and then his eyes closed a little and his eyebrows furrowed down and he crossed his arms.
"You went to see Mason??!?!!?" My father shouted.
"No! I was going down a hill and fell into some water and I can't swim so I was drowning and I yelled for help and Mason heard me from the street in his car and he ran down the hill and jumped in and pulled me out and gave me cpr. He saved my life dad!" I said.
"That doesn't make him all good." My father pointed out.
"He saved my life dad isn't that good enough?" I asked in a yell.
"Good enough for what? Sleeping with him?" My father asked in a yell.
"No!" I screamed. "Why do you always think I'm going to sleep with him dad I'm not like that!" I yelled.
"Like what? A teenage girl?" He asked.
"No dad, I'm a virgin! I've never slept with anyone before!" I said.
"Yeah, you're just saying that!" My father said.
"I'll prove I'm still a virgin." I said.
"How? God no." My father said.
I half smiled, even though I was disgusted and horrified and tickled at the same time.
"Take me to the doctor tomorrow." I said finally.
My father looked at me with his nose scrunched.
Then he shook his head.
"Never mind, I believe you!" My father said.
I stood up by myself for the first time after the stitches and found myself walking up the stairs without any help.
The stitches were on my shin so I could bend my knee just as good as before the stitches.
I picked one of my 3 pillows off of my bed and put it at the end of my bed so my leg could be propped up.
I laid there looking at the ceiling and I let myself drift off into light slumber where I dreamt about Mason.
He was the one I loved and I would never love anyone else like I did Mason.
