Chapter 23:
"Can I ask you a serious question?" Mason asked me.
I nodded.
"How tall are you in Cheetos?" He asked me smiling a little.
I laughed and he smiled bigger.
"I'm serious." He said.
"I don't know, that's a weird question." I said smiling.
"I'm 32 Cheetos long." He said nodding smiling.
"What even made you do that?" I asked happily.
"It was a question on the back on the jalapeno Cheetos bag." He said smiling.
"You want to see how tall you are?" He asked.
"I don't even have Cheetos." I said he smiled.
"I do!" He said pulling a bag out of his back pocket.
I fell backwards on my bed laughing quietly.
"You take Cheetos with you when you go to my house?" I asked.
"Always. You never know if you'll get stranded somewhere and don't have anything to eat." He said.
I laughed harder.
I kept telling myself that I needed to be quieter when I laughed because my father was going to find it suspicious that I was already in a happy mood even after all that had happened that afternoon.
"Ok." I said. "I'll do it."
He smiled.
"Ok, lay down on the carpet." He said.
"Ok." I answered uncomfortably.
I laid down and he opened the bag of Cheetos and pulled five of them out and placed them on the carpet, eating a couple Cheetos as he went along.
When he finished he counted all the Cheetos and it came up to be 28.
I sat up smiling and leaned in for a kiss.
We were kissing passionately and he made me have that feeling again, like I was safe, like my father wouldn't find us.
I felt like I was Rapunzel confined up in my room (the castle) and Mason was the prince climbing up the castle (the lattice) to save me.
I pulled away from his perfect lips and turned, facing my back towards him.
Laying my head in his lap I turned on my tv.
We watched Flight of the Navigator, because it was already in my vcr.
I didn't have cable on my tv so I always just watched tapes and dvds.
About half way through Mason said he was thirsty; he and I had eaten about half the bag of Cheetos.
I was thirsty too and he asked if I'd sneak downstairs and get us both a drink.
I looked down at my watch and suspected that my parents were in bed already, it was about 1 in the morning.
"Ok." I told him getting up. "If you hear my dad coming, or even by my door, leave, I'm serious, he'll look everywhere." I said.
He nodded knowingly and that's when I left.
I opened my door and stepped into the hall shutting the door behind me.
Tiptoeing downstairs I hoped my parents weren't around the corner in the living room.
I peeked very sneakily once I saw no one in the living room.
