Madison's pov (September 14th, 2018)
I stood in front of the mirror in the locker room by myself since the cheerleaders were already on the field. I let out a breath as I put my helmet.
"Alright. You can do this, Madison. First game day and everything is gonna go amazingly. Coach thinks you're one of the best players on the team." I gave myself a pep talk. "Somehow word got out that you're really good and now the whole school is counting on you to win the game. Fuck."
Suddenly there was a loud knock on the locker room door. "Hutchins, let's go!"
"You're gonna do great." I told myself.
I left the locker room and joined the rest of the team in the line up. We ran onto the field and our side of the bleachers cheered while the opposing team's side of the bleachers booed us.
I started to stretch along with the rest of my team while I looked into the bleachers. The entire student section was filled and everyone was wearing our school colors, blue and white.
I looked into the area where the families sat, immediately seeing Liam and my dad. Dad gave me a thumbs up while it looked like Liam was on facetime with someone.
I looked at the cheerleaders and saw Olivia talking to her team. She glanced up and made eye contact with me. She blew me a kiss causing me to smile and return the gesture.
I stood in the middle of the field with my hands on my knees as we got ready to do the play.
I caught the ball and started to run, the crowds cheers getting louder every time I made it closer to the end zone. The next thing I knew, someone's arms were around me and I was being tackled to the ground.
The ref blew his whistle and I stood up from the ground, throwing the ball down before walking back over to the rest of the team. As I walked passed my coach, he patted me on the back.
"It's alright, kid." Coach said.
I didn't even look over at my dad. Ever since I made the team he's been non stop talking about football and how I have to be the best. He's a big football guy and I respect that but this isn't the NFL. Although I still feel like I have to be the best for him.
The ball was thrown again and I ran to catch it. I held out my arm to catch it but I missed and it hit the ground. I leaned too far forward and ended up losing my balance, falling to the ground.
The whistle was blown as I laid down on the ground for a second. I wasn't in any pain or anything I just needed a moment. I have no idea what's going on with me.
One of my teammates ran over to me and held out his hand. I took it and he helped me stand up, the two of us walking back to the team.
"Catch the ball Madison!" I heard dad shout.
Really? I hadn't thought of doing that.
Finally it was halftime and I was happy to get a break. I didn't play too well for the first half but hopefully this break will help in some way.
The rest of the team went back to the locker room to hang out while I stayed on the field to watch the cheerleaders perform their halftime show. Well, more like watch Olivia perform. She looks so good in her uniform and I can't get enough of it.
"Madison!"
I looked up at the bleachers when I heard my name. I saw these two freshman girls looking at me and waving at me. I gave them a small wave back causing them to turn and giggle at each other.
