Matsu, Calie, and Marie hesitated for a moment before Matsu finally pushed the door open. The room was dimly lit, shadows casting eerie shapes across the walls. They stepped inside, their eyes immediately searching for Viper. She sat in a large chair near the back of the room, her body slumped in a way that spoke of deep exhaustion. But what caught their attention first was the silence—an unusual and unnerving quiet that hung heavy in the air.

"Viper?" Matsu called out softly, his voice gentle but laced with concern. "Are you okay?"

There was no response at first, just the faint sound of her breathing. Then, they heard her whisper, "Shhh... be quiet."

Matsu, Calie, and Marie exchanged a worried glance. This was not like Viper, who was usually direct and commanding. Something was very wrong.

"Viper, are you okay?" Calie asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yeah..." Viper's voice came out strained, as if every word took effort. Her chair was turned away from them, preventing them from seeing her clearly. The trio moved closer, their concern growing by the second.

"Please, turn around," Marie gently urged, her heart pounding with anxiety.

There was a pause, and then Viper's voice, shaky and tinged with fear, whispered, "Please... don't take him from me."

Matsu's brow furrowed in confusion, and Calie and Marie looked at each other, trying to make sense of what she was saying. "Him?" Matsu repeated, his voice soft and confused.

Viper slowly turned her chair around, and as she did, the trio's eyes widened in shock. Viper was in a terrible state—her arm was in a makeshift sling, clearly broken. Her face was a mess, her nose visibly broken, and dark bruises covered nearly every inch of her exposed skin. Gashes crisscrossed her arms and legs, and her once fiery eyes were now dull with pain and exhaustion.

But what stunned them the most was the tiny bundle she was cradling in her good arm—a baby boy, no older than a few months, swaddled in a tattered blanket. The child slept soundly, oblivious to the chaos surrounding him, his tiny fingers curled around Viper's shirt.

Viper's eyes, though filled with pain, held a fierce protectiveness as she looked down at the child. "Please... don't take him from me," she repeated, her voice breaking with emotion.

Matsu, Calie, and Marie were speechless for a moment, their minds racing to comprehend what they were seeing. Viper, one of the fiercest warriors they knew, was sitting here, battered and bruised, holding a baby as if her life depended on it.

"We're not going to take him from you, Viper," Matsu finally said, his voice gentle and reassuring. He stepped closer, his eyes softening as he looked at her and the child. "But we need to know what happened."

Viper's grip tightened on the baby, her eyes welling with tears. "It's... it's a long story," she whispered, her voice trembling. "But right now... I just need to know he's safe."

Matsu nodded, his heart heavy with empathy. "He's safe. We're here to help. Let's get you both to somewhere more secure, and then you can tell us everything."

Calie and Marie moved closer, their hands reaching out to offer comfort. Viper looked at them, her tough exterior crumbling as she finally let out a breath she had been holding. Tears slipped down her bruised cheeks, but she nodded, trusting them completely.

As they gently guided her out of the cabin, Matsu couldn't help but wonder what kind of nightmare had led to this moment. Whatever had happened, it was clear that Viper had been through hell—and that the story she had to tell would change everything.
