As the Soul Eclipse began to fade, everyone could feel the connection between the living and the departed slowly weakening. There was a sense of peace, but also the inevitable ache of separation.
The spirits began to flicker, their forms becoming less solid, the glow around them dimming. One by one, they offered their final goodbyes.
Matsu's parents smiled at him with pride, Aiko gave Calie and Marie one last loving glance, and Hiro waved at Marina with a mischievous grin. Blaze's grandmother placed a gentle, spectral hand on her shoulder before slowly fading away.
The Soul Eclipse may have ended, but the love and memories forged during those moments would remain, guiding them all through the days ahead.
As the final moments of the Soul Eclipse neared, the weight of goodbye began to settle in the hearts of those gathered. The spiritual glow surrounding their loved ones flickered, signaling that time was running out.
Matsu's parents stood before him, their forms already starting to fade. His mother hugged him tightly, whispering, "Be strong, Matsudo. You've come so far, and we'll always be proud of you."
His father, though quieter, gripped Matsu's shoulder firmly. "We'll always be with you, son. Take care of your sisters and that family of yours."
Matsu, eyes brimming with unshed tears, smiled through the emotion. "I will. I promise." He hugged both of them one last time, trying to imprint every detail of their warmth and presence in his mind.
As they faded, Peony ran over to her aunts, Yumiko, Iyomei, and Kamenei. She threw her arms around them, her small voice trembling. "I'll miss you, aunties. Papa says I need to go, but... but I don't want to."
Yumiko knelt down to Peony's level, brushing a tear from her cheek. "You've got a strong heart, Peony. Just like your papa. You'll be okay. We'll always be watching out for you."
Peony sniffled, her brave smile flickering. "I'll be strong. I promise."
Nearby, Calie and Marie were locked in an embrace with their grandmother, Aiko. "You two have grown into such amazing women," Aiko whispered, her voice filled with pride. "I'm so glad I got to see it."
Marie, usually composed, was blinking rapidly, trying to keep from crying. "You've always been our strength, Grandma. We're going to keep making you proud."
Calie, tears already streaming down her cheeks, nodded. "I'm so glad we could talk again. I love you so much."
Aiko pulled them in for one last hug. "I love you both. Be strong for each other."
As the spirits flickered in and out, Angelo and Orca said goodbye to their grandparents, exchanging final words of love and laughter, while Marina awkwardly waved goodbye to her uncle Hiro, who gave her one last teasing grin. "Take care of Opal, Marina. You're a good girl."
Even Blaze, usually tough and guarded, felt her heart squeeze as her grandmother's presence faded away. She clenched her fists, fighting back the overwhelming feeling of loss. Wally gave her a comforting squeeze on her shoulder, and Blaze whispered softly, "I'll never forget this."
Finally, Matsu, Calie, and Marie knelt before Peony, who had tears in her wide eyes but tried so hard to stay strong for them. They wrapped their arms around her, a family locked in a circle of love, holding on as tight as they could.
Peony buried her face into Matsu's chest. "Papa... I don't want to go. I want to stay with you and Mama Calie and Mama Marie."
Matsu kissed the top of her head, his own tears spilling down onto her hair. "I know, Peony. We want you to stay too. But you'll always be with us, no matter where you are. You're part of us forever."
