Two days had passed, and there was a noticeable change in the air. While Matsu was slowly finding his footing again and was in a better headspace, Calie and Marie were also starting to feel more like themselves. The time they spent apart from Matsu and each other seemed to help them grow and reconnect with different parts of themselves. It was a healthy shift—one that allowed them to explore their individual identities and enjoy new experiences in their own ways.
Calie, ever the social butterfly, had thrown herself into spending time with her mini-group of friends: Orca, Marina, Opal, and Terry. The group's dynamic was lighthearted, and they often found themselves laughing at Terry's quips or Orca's more mischievous antics. Marina, with her sweet and bubbly personality, always kept the vibe upbeat, while Opal added a dash of sharp wit. But what stood out most about Calie was her newfound comfort in engaging with fans. Although she had always been a people person, Calie had taken the time to form actual connections with some of her more devoted followers.
At first, it started small, with her responding to more fan messages or giving a few words of encouragement at meet-and-greets. Soon, however, she found herself talking more openly, genuinely connecting with the people who looked up to her. It was uplifting to see their enthusiasm and love for her. Still, even though she enjoyed these interactions, she knew the boundaries of fandom. Despite befriending a few of them, she realized that these were connections better kept at a distance. She was deeply kind, but also aware of the unique challenges of being in the public eye.
While Calie flourished in her social world, Marie took a different approach. More reserved and introspective, Marie chose to invest her time in her smaller group, which included Angelo, Jackie, Blaze, and Wally. Marie wasn't naturally drawn to the idea of reaching out to new people—her humor and personality, though well-loved on stage, often came off as jarring to strangers in everyday life. She knew it wasn't something she could help. Her dry wit, sarcastic remarks, and cool demeanor were all a part of who she was, and she accepted that not everyone resonated with it.
Marie had long since come to terms with the fact that Calie was more naturally likable. Calie's warmth and vivaciousness allowed her to make friends with ease, while Marie had always been more selective, finding it easier to bond with those already close to Matsu or Calie. Still, she never felt overshadowed by her cousin's magnetic energy. Instead, she admired Calie's ability to make people feel instantly welcomed and safe, traits that Marie could only embody in her own quieter, more understated way.
For Marie, being with people like Blaze, Angelo, and Jackie gave her a sense of belonging without the pressure to constantly adapt. Blaze, with her tomboyish charm, was easygoing and often teased Marie lightly about her sarcasm. Angelo and Wally, though quieter, offered her companionship through thoughtful conversations. Jackie, gentle-hearted and always understanding, appreciated Marie's bluntness and never took it personally when she spoke her mind.
Though Marie wasn't out seeking to make new friends like Calie, she cherished the company of her group. These were people who saw her as she was—without the fanfare or the lights of the stage—and they accepted her fully.
As the days went by, the two cousins found that this separation allowed them to breathe. Calie's naturally bright spirit found strength in the positivity of the fans and her friends, while Marie, with her sharp sense of humor and reflective nature, grew more comfortable in her quieter connections. The time apart from Matsu and each other didn't weaken their bonds; instead, it allowed them to reaffirm their own strengths and identities outside of their trio.
Despite their different approaches, both Calie and Marie knew that this growth was necessary. They would reunite with Matsu soon, feeling stronger and more assured in themselves—ready to support him and each other once again. For now, though, they were content in exploring these new facets of their lives, embracing the space they had created for themselves.
