Y/N and Mattheo Riddle had always been enemies, constantly at each other's throats since their first year at Hogwarts. Their heated arguments and fierce glares had become a staple of daily life, much to the amusement of their classmates. Y/N was currently in a relationship with a boy named Alex, a relationship that everyone thought was perfect. But beneath the surface, things were far from ideal.

One afternoon, while Y/N was walking to class, she bumped into Mattheo. Her books went flying, and she let out an exasperated sigh. "Watch where you're going, Riddle!"

Mattheo smirked, but his eyes caught something that made his heart stop. Her sleeve had slid up, revealing dark bruises on her wrist. "What's that?" he asked, his voice suddenly serious.

Y/N quickly pulled her sleeve down, her eyes flashing with anger. "None of your business, Mattheo."

But he wouldn't let it go. Over the next few days, Mattheo kept a close eye on Y/N, noticing more and more signs of her distress. She seemed jumpy, her usual fiery spirit dampened. Finally, he couldn't stand it any longer. One evening, he cornered her in an empty corridor.

"Y/N, we need to talk," he said firmly.

She rolled her eyes. "About what? How much you hate me?"

"Cut the crap," he snapped. "I've seen the bruises. What's going on?"

Her eyes widened, and she looked away, biting her lip. "It's nothing. Just...leave me alone, Mattheo."

He stepped closer, his voice softening. "Please, Y/N. I can help."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at him, the walls she had built around her heart crumbling. "It's Alex," she whispered. "He...he's not who everyone thinks he is. He hurts me."

Mattheo's blood boiled. "That bastard. Why haven't you told anyone?"

"I thought I could handle it," she admitted, her voice trembling. "I didn't want to cause any trouble."

"Trouble?" Mattheo said incredulously. "Y/N, this is your life we're talking about. You don't deserve this."

She looked at him, confused. "Why do you care, Mattheo? You've always hated me."

He ran a hand through his hair, struggling to find the right words. "I never hated you, Y/N. I pretended because...because I didn't know how to deal with how I felt about you. I like you. A lot. And seeing you hurt...it kills me."

Her eyes widened in shock. "You...you like me?"

He nodded, stepping closer and gently taking her hand. "I can treat you better than that shitty boyfriend of yours. You deserve someone who cares about you."

Tears spilled down her cheeks as she listened to his words, her heart aching with a mixture of relief and confusion. "Mattheo, I don't know what to say."

"Say you'll let me help you," he said softly. "Let me take care of you."

She nodded, and he pulled her into a tight embrace, his heart breaking at the thought of what she had endured. "We'll get through this together," he promised.

The next day, Mattheo confronted Alex in the courtyard. He had never been so angry in his life. "Stay away from Y/N," he growled. "If you ever touch her again, you'll regret it."

Alex sneered, but the look in Mattheo's eyes made him think twice. "Fine," he muttered. "She's not worth the trouble anyway."

Mattheo watched him go, his fists clenched. He then turned to Y/N, who had been watching from a distance. "It's over," he said, walking up to her. "He won't bother you again."

She looked at him, gratitude and admiration shining in her eyes. "Thank you, Mattheo."

He smiled, gently brushing a tear from her cheek. "You're welcome, Y/N. Now, let's get you out of here. You deserve so much better."

As they walked away from the courtyard, hand in hand, Y/N felt a sense of hope she hadn't felt in a long time. With Mattheo by her side, she knew she could face anything. And for the first time, she allowed herself to believe in a future where she was truly happy.
