Y/N had always noticed Mattheo Riddle. His dark hair, piercing eyes, and the way he carried himself with an air of mystery made him impossible to ignore. What she didn't understand was why he always seemed to be flirting with other girls right in front of her.
It started in Potions class. Y/N was busy focusing on her potion when she saw Mattheo across the room, whispering something to a pretty Ravenclaw girl. The girl giggled, and Y/N felt a pang of jealousy that she quickly pushed aside. She had no claim on Mattheo; they were just classmates, after all.
But it wasn't just in Potions. At lunch, in the library, during Quidditch practice—Mattheo was always there, flirting and making sure Y/N could see. It drove her crazy, though she'd never admit it out loud. She told herself it was silly to be jealous, especially over someone who clearly enjoyed playing games.
One day, Y/N decided enough was enough. If Mattheo could play games, so could she. She started talking to James, a charming Hufflepuff, who had shown interest in her before. She laughed at his jokes, touched his arm lightly, and made sure Mattheo saw them together.
It didn't take long for Mattheo to notice. He watched them from across the Great Hall, his jaw clenched and eyes narrowed. Y/N felt a thrill of satisfaction but also a twinge of guilt. This wasn't her, but she couldn't let Mattheo think he could toy with her emotions.
Later that evening, as Y/N was heading back to the Slytherin common room, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned to see Mattheo, his expression a mix of anger and something else she couldn't quite place.
"What's going on with you and James?" he demanded, stepping closer.
Y/N crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. "Why do you care? You have plenty of other girls to keep you busy."
Mattheo's eyes flashed. "You know that's not true."
"Do I?" Y/N shot back, feeling her frustration bubble to the surface. "All you ever do is flirt with other girls, Mattheo. Why should I think you care about me at all?"
He took another step closer, so close she could feel the heat radiating from him. "Because I do care, Y/N. More than you know. Seeing you with James drives me insane."
"Really?" Y/N said, her voice softer now. "Then why do you always flirt with other girls?"
Mattheo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I thought... I thought if you saw me with other girls, you'd realize how much I wanted you to notice me. I was an idiot. I didn't know how to tell you how I felt."
Y/N's heart softened at his words, but she wasn't ready to let him off the hook just yet. "So, you decided to make me jealous instead?"
Mattheo nodded, looking genuinely regretful. "It was stupid. I see that now. I'm sorry, Y/N."
She looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of insincerity, but found none. "You hurt me, Mattheo. But I don't want to play games anymore."
"Neither do I," he said quickly. "I want to be with you, Y/N. No more games, no more flirting with other girls. Just you and me."
Y/N hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright. But if you ever pull something like that again, we're done. Got it?"
"Got it," Mattheo said with a small smile, relief flooding his features. "I promise, Y/N. No more games."
He reached out and took her hand, and for the first time, Y/N felt like they were on the same page. As they walked back to the common room together, hand in hand, she couldn't help but feel hopeful about their future.
