The Great Hall buzzed with anticipation as the new students waited to be sorted into their houses. The candles floated above, casting a warm glow over the gathered students and professors. Among them, Y/N sat beside Tom Riddle, her husband, who was now the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. They watched as their daughter, Livia, stood in line, her face a mask of nervous excitement.
"She'll be fine," Y/N whispered, squeezing Tom's hand.
Tom nodded, but his expression was tense. "I know. I just hope she gets into Slytherin. It's tradition."
Livia's turn came, and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. The hall fell silent as everyone waited for the hat's decision. Livia closed her eyes, gripping the edge of the stool tightly.
"Ravenclaw!" the hat finally announced.
The Ravenclaw table erupted in cheers. Livia's eyes opened wide in surprise, but she quickly composed herself and walked over to her new housemates, who welcomed her enthusiastically.
Tom's grip on Y/N's hand tightened. "Ravenclaw?" he muttered, disbelief etched on his face.
Y/N tried to smile reassuringly. "Ravenclaw is a great house, Tom. She's smart, curious, and loves learning. She'll do well there."
He sighed, his shoulders relaxing slightly. "I know. I just... I hoped she'd be in Slytherin like us."
That evening, they visited Livia in the Ravenclaw common room. She ran up to them, her eyes shining with excitement. "Mom, Dad, did you see? I'm in Ravenclaw!"
Y/N hugged her tightly. "We did, sweetheart. We're so proud of you."
Tom forced a smile, patting Livia's shoulder. "Yes, very proud."
Over the next few weeks, Livia thrived in Ravenclaw. She made new friends, excelled in her classes, and embraced her house's values of intelligence and creativity. However, Tom struggled with the idea. He had always envisioned his daughter following in his footsteps, becoming a proud Slytherin.
One afternoon, Y/N found Tom in his office, staring at a picture of Livia.
"Tom," she said gently, sitting beside him. "You need to accept this. Livia is happy in Ravenclaw. She's doing well."
He sighed deeply. "I know. It's just... I always thought she'd be in Slytherin. It's hard to let go of that dream."
Y/N took his hand. "Our daughter is more than a house. She's kind, intelligent, and brave. Those are the things that matter, not the color of her tie."
Tom nodded slowly, squeezing her hand. "You're right. As always."
Later that week, they received an owl from Livia, inviting them to a Ravenclaw-hosted event. It was a celebration of academic achievements, and Livia was being recognized for her outstanding performance in her first term.
They arrived at the Ravenclaw tower, and Livia greeted them with a beaming smile. "Come on, I want to show you something!"
She led them to a table displaying various projects. Hers was a beautifully detailed model of the Hogwarts castle, complete with moving parts and enchanted elements.
"It's incredible," Y/N said, her eyes wide with amazement. "You did this all by yourself?"
Livia nodded proudly. "Yes, with a little help from my friends. Professor Flitwick said it's one of the best he's seen."
Tom looked at the model, then at his daughter. "You did a wonderful job, Livia. I'm very proud of you."
Her face lit up with joy. "Thanks, Dad."
As they left the event, Tom put his arm around Y/N. "You were right," he said quietly. "She's exactly where she belongs."
Y/N smiled, leaning into him. "I told you. She's our daughter, and she'll make us proud no matter where she is."
From that day on, Tom embraced Livia's place in Ravenclaw. He attended every event, cheered her on in every competition, and supported her as she carved her own path. He realized that the true measure of a parent's pride wasn't in the house their child was sorted into, but in the person they grew to become.
And in Livia, he saw a future that was bright and full of promise, regardless of the color of her house crest.
