Y/N blinked her eyes open, the early morning light streaming through the curtains. Her head felt heavy, and she had a vague sense of disorientation. As she tried to shake off the fog in her mind, she turned over and froze.
There, lying next to her, was Theo, his dark hair tousled and his face peaceful in sleep. Panic surged through her. This wasn't right. She had a boyfriend, and waking up next to Theo wasn't something that should have happened.
Carefully, she slipped out of bed, trying not to wake him. She dressed quickly, her mind racing to piece together the events of the previous night. There had been a party, lots of laughter and drinks. She remembered dancing with her friends, but everything after that was a blur.
Just as she was about to leave the room, she heard a soft groan. "Y/N?"
Theo's sleepy voice stopped her in her tracks. She turned to see him sitting up, rubbing his eyes. "Theo, what happened last night?"
He looked at her, his expression serious. "You don't remember?"
Y/N shook her head, feeling a knot of guilt and confusion tightening in her chest. "No, I don't. I just remember the party."
Theo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "You had a bit too much to drink. We danced, talked, and then... well, one thing led to another."
Y/N felt a blush creeping up her cheeks. "So we...?"
Theo nodded, looking slightly regretful. "Yeah, we did."
Her heart sank. This was more than just a mistake—it was a betrayal. She had a boyfriend, Jacob, who didn't deserve this. "Theo, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen."
He looked at her, his eyes filled with a mix of regret and something else—something deeper. "I didn't either, Y/N. But maybe this was bound to happen. There's something between us, something we've both been ignoring."
Y/N's thoughts were a whirlwind as she left Theo's room and made her way back to her own. She felt guilty about Jacob, but she couldn't deny the truth in Theo's words.
Over the next few days, she found herself thinking about Theo more and more. His touch, his laughter, and his constant presence lingered in her mind.
Jacob had been distant lately, wrapped up in his own world, and Y/N realized how much she missed feeling truly connected to someone. With Theo, everything felt different. Better.
One evening, as they sat by the Black Lake, Y/N couldn't keep her thoughts to herself any longer. "Theo, I need to talk to you."
He looked at her, concern in his eyes. "What's on your mind?"
She took a deep breath, her heart pounding. "I've been thinking a lot about what happened the other night. And... about us."
Theo's expression grew cautious. "And what have you been thinking?"
"I've been with Jacob for a while now, but lately, it doesn't feel right. And when I'm with you, everything feels... different. Better." She paused, gathering her courage. "I think I have feelings for you, Theo. Real feelings."
Theo was silent for a moment, processing her words. Then he reached out, taking her hand in his. "Y/N, I've had feelings for you for a long time. I didn't want to say anything because you were with Jacob. But I can't deny it anymore either."
Y/N felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over her. "So, what do we do now?"
Theo smiled, his eyes shining with hope. "We take it one step at a time. But I promise you this, Y/N: I'll be here for you, no matter what."
As they sat by the lake, hand in hand, Y/N realized that she had finally found what she had been looking for all along. In Theo, she had not just a friend, but someone who truly understood her, someone who made her feel loved and cherished.
And for the first time in a long time, she felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
The next day, Y/N knew what she had to do. She found Jacob in the common room, reading a book. He looked up, smiling when he saw her. "Hey, Y/N."
"Jacob, we need to talk," she said, her voice steady but soft.
He put his book down, a concerned look on his face. "What's wrong?"
Y/N took a deep breath. "I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I realized that things between us aren't right anymore. I've changed, and I think you have too. I don't want to hurt you, but I think it's best if we break up."
Jacob's face fell, and he looked at her with a mix of hurt and confusion. "Is this because of Theo?"
Y/N hesitated, then nodded. "Partly. But it's more than that. I haven't been honest with myself or with you. I've realized that my feelings for Theo are real, and I can't ignore them."
Jacob sighed, looking away for a moment before meeting her eyes again. "I guess I always knew something was off lately. I just didn't want to admit it. If Theo makes you happy, then I won't stand in the way."
Y/N felt a pang of guilt but also relief. "Thank you for understanding, Jacob. I'm really sorry."
Jacob nodded, a sad smile on his face. "It's okay, Y/N. I hope you find what you're looking for."
With that, they parted ways, the weight of the decision heavy but necessary. Later, she found Theo waiting for her by the lake.
"How did it go?" he asked, concern in his eyes.
Y/N took his hand, squeezing it gently. "It was hard, but it's done. I told him everything."
Theo pulled her into a hug, holding her close. "I'm proud of you, Y/N. And I'm here for you, no matter what."
As they stood by the lake, the sun setting behind them, Y/N felt a sense of peace and hope. She knew the path ahead wouldn't be easy, but with Theo by her side, she was ready to face it.
In Theo, she had found not just a friend, but someone who truly understood her, someone who made her feel loved and cherished. And for the first time in a long time, she felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
