Blaise sat in the common room, a glass of firewhisky resting loosely in his hand as he half-listened to Lorenzo and Mattheo bicker about a Quidditch match. The flickering firelight danced across his face, his expression calm but distant. He was good at pretending he didn't care—but then the owl came.
The bird swooped in through the window, an envelope tied to its leg. Blaise frowned, pulling it free and noting the unfamiliar handwriting. He opened it casually, his brows furrowing as he skimmed the message.
"Y/N has been admitted to St. Mungo's. It was an accident. We don't know the details yet, but you should come."
His heart stopped. For a moment, he simply stared at the parchment, the words blurring together. Then, without a word, he rose to his feet, the letter crumpled in his fist.
"Blaise?" Mattheo called after him. "Where are you going?"
But Blaise didn't answer. He moved with purpose, his usually cool demeanor cracking as panic clawed at his chest. The walk to the Floo network felt like it took an eternity, his mind racing with questions and fears. What happened? Was she okay?
By the time he reached St. Mungo's, his mask of indifference had shattered entirely. He was terrified, and the only thing that mattered was seeing her again.
—
Blaise entered the room with his usual composed stride, but his expression betrayed the storm brewing inside. He closed the door gently behind him and approached Y/N's bedside.
He stood for a long moment, his jaw tight as he took in the sight of her. Finally, he sat down and leaned back, rubbing a hand over his face.
"You always manage to get yourself into trouble," he said quietly. "It's infuriating, you know."
Despite his words, his tone was filled with unspoken concern. "But you're also the most stubborn person I've ever met. So I know you'll fight through this."
His gaze softened as he added, "I'll be here. However long it takes."
—
Blaise had his eyes closed, his head tilted back against the chair. He almost didn't hear it when Y/N's voice broke through the silence.
"Blaise..."
His eyes snapped open, and he leaned forward instantly. "Y/N?"
She gave him a faint smile. "You look like you've been brooding for hours."
Blaise let out a soft laugh, his tension easing as he sat up straighter. "I wouldn't call it brooding," he said, though his usual smirk was back. "I was just... thinking."
He shook his head, his hand brushing hers. "You gave us all a scare, you know. But I knew you'd pull through. You always do."
