Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that Bakugou's words had struck too close to home. As she sat in her dorm the next morning, staring out the window, she replayed the conversation over and over in her mind.
I wanna see what you're really capable of.
His voice echoed in her head, cutting through her defenses like a blade. He had seen something in her—a weakness, a fear—and he had called her out on it. She hated that. Hated how easily he seemed to read her when she'd spent years perfecting her walls.
But he wasn't wrong.
The truth was, Y/N had been holding back. She always held back, ever since that day with Kaito. It wasn't about power anymore; it was about control. Losing control terrified her more than anything, because it reminded her of how Kaito had made her feel—out of control, helpless, like her own strength was a threat to herself.
Y/N exhaled slowly, pushing herself off the bed and grabbing her training gear. She wasn't going to let Bakugou's words get to her. She needed to focus, needed to keep her distance from whatever fire he was trying to ignite inside her.
But the truth was, deep down, she wanted to prove him wrong. Prove to him—and to herself—that she wasn't afraid anymore.
The training grounds were buzzing with activity as Y/N arrived for class. Today was a joint session between Class 1-A and 1-B, meaning she'd be paired with someone from her brother's class. The idea was to foster collaboration between the two groups, but it felt more like a thinly veiled competition.
And of course, as fate would have it, she spotted Bakugou standing near the center of the group, arms crossed, a permanent scowl etched across his face.
Great.
Y/N's pulse quickened as she made her way to the gathering students. She wasn't about to let him see that his words from the night before had gotten under her skin.
"Alright, listen up!" Aizawa-sensei's voice cut through the chatter. "Today's exercise is a two-on-two match. You'll be paired with someone from the opposite class. The goal is to take down the opposing pair using whatever tactics you see fit. You'll be judged on strategy, teamwork, and overall effectiveness."
Y/N quickly scanned the crowd, mentally preparing herself for whoever she was about to be paired with. If she could avoid Bakugou, today might not be a total disaster.
"Y/N Sero, you're with Bakugou."
Her heart dropped.
Of course.
Bakugou didn't say anything, but Y/N could feel his eyes on her as she approached him, her expression carefully guarded. She kept her distance, but as always, Bakugou's presence felt overwhelming—like standing too close to a bonfire that could burn you if you weren't careful.
"So," she said, crossing her arms, "got any ideas or are we just gonna blast our way through this?"
