Two months prior
Enid had just finished talking with her advisor. Her life was about to head in a whole new amazing direction. Like literally. Back East. After leaving Nevermore she thought she was probably done with that side of the country. Funny how things work out. She was looking for a fresh start. She wanted an adventure. College had felt heavy. Good, but heavy. Sure she had fun. She had a ton of friends. She dated, but never really connected with anyone on anything deeper than a physical level. She did have a few friends with benefits so to speak. Nothing serious. She already knew that would be the case, her wolf still wanted the one person in the world it couldn't have. It still hurt some days, but she had stopped looking...we'll sort of.
In an attempt to keep her in her life, Enid had collected all of Wednesday's books. Signed copies even. It wasn't hard to figure out who W. F. Addams was. Especially given the content. The third and fourth books were her favorites. She literally cheered out loud in the middle of the school library when Viper and Clair officially got together. She was thoroughly shushed by the other students around her. It happened again when they kissed for the first time, then when they exchanged I love yous. She always pictured her and Wednesday. She wanted it to be her and Wednesday. She would let her mind wander to what could have been quite frequently.
Outside of obsessively reading and rereading all of Wednesday's books, Enid had joined the fencing team, the glee club, and dance team. She also served on the board for student government. Enid had also joined a sorority and did all the normal college things. Parties, clubs, study groups, intern ships. She worked and saved as much as she could. She passed all her classes at the top. She even graduated with her bachelor's degree a bit early and was accepted into the master's program which she aced. It only took her five years. It was quite the accomplishment. Even her mom was somewhat proud of her.
Enid's academic record was so impressive she was put into a program that offered job placement. So when she received the email offering her the job at a prestigious elementary school in New Jersey of all places, she didn't hesitate. It was one of the best schools in the country, so she immediately accepted it. She would make it work. Somehow she would make it work.
Enid Sinclair kindergarten teacher would be a force for sure.As soon as she knew where she was going Enid texted Yoko. All she said was she got placed in New Jersey. She figured she could fill in the rest of the details later. Yoko was the one constant in her life. Last Enid knew however, Yoko was still traveling the world with some girl. Must be nice to be rich. Quinn was long gone, and now Yoko was somewhere between fiancé six and seven in five years. Enid was right before, it was all very physical. Yoko wasn't the same in that respect since she and Divina broke up. She was constantly falling in and out of love that was never really love. Although she would refuse to admit it if her life depended on it. Enid understood more than her best friend knew, she was still stuck on her high school roommate. Yoko was still stuck on her high school lover. Who would have thought.
Enid picked up her phone. It was sometime in the very early hours of the morning. "Hello?" She asked. "New Jersey? What the hell's in New Jersey?" The voice on the other end of the phone snarked skeptically. "My new job." Enid answered. "Ugh." Yoko responded. "I hate New Jersey. Is this a forever thing?" Yoko griped? Enid was quiet for a minute. "I don't know. Maybe." She answered. "You leave tomorrow for sure?" Yoko asked. "Yup. I'm all packed and ready to go for the most part. I already have the trailer and everything." Enid replied. "You really plan on driving across country by yourself towing a trailer?" Yoko grumbled. "Well yeah. It's not like I have anyone to travel with me." Enid countered. "Go open your door." Yoko chuckled. "Wait? What? Like really?" Enid jumped up with a happy squeak. She sprinted across her apartment and flung the door open. She was ready to say something sappy to her bestie but the hallway was empty. She looked at the phone in her hand. Yoko had already hung up. Her face fell. She wouldn't put it past Yoko to mess with her like this. It was one of the reasons they could never be roommates back at Nevermore.
