Enid pulled up to the hospital with two minutes to spare. A six foot ladder was precariously strapped into the back of her Nissan. At exactly eight o'clock Wednesday Addams stepped through the hospital's sliding glass doors. She opened Enid's passenger side, entered the car, and shut it without a word. Then they were off. Seconds into the drive Enid handed Wednesday a large to go cup and a bag. "Breakfast." She stated.
Wednesday side eyed her. She examined the order. An almond croissant and some kind of coffee based beverage. Enid smiled. "A quad over ice with a quarter teaspoon of simple sugar. Dissolved while it's still hot of course." Enid smirked Wednesday grunted. "How?" She scoffed. "I have my ways." Enid snickered. "You asked the barista at the cafe?" Wednesday huffed. "I asked the barista at the cafe." Enid confirmed with a smirk. Wednesday stifled a small smile. "But now I know your order by heart again. Almond croissant because cyanide...why not...and a quad over ice. What surprised me was the addition of the sugar." Enid said with a smirk. "Every once in a while I still crave a bit of sugar after my pregnancy. Ever wanted a tremendous amount of it while she was in utero. She devoured it." Wednesday replied sheepishly.
"Speaking of my favorite student, how is Ever this morning?" Enid asked cheerfully. "Being stubborn." Wednesday grumbled. "She insisted on coming with us. She even tried to get up and get dressed Iv's and all. I had to have Pugsley threaten to sit on her. When that didn't work I had Dr. Grimm threaten to sedate her. She stayed begrudgingly. I had to promise I'd bring you back with me for a visit. Ever has a delightfully bad habit of being stubborn, single minded, and obsessive, and right now she's fixated on that ball...and you." Wednesday added with an almost imperceptible smile. "Sounds like someone else I know." Enid teased. "Oh yes, I'm quite sure I was completely insufferable." Wednesday mumbled rolling her eyes. "Actually no. Most of the time I totally enjoyed your company Wens. Even when you were threatening to smother me in my sleep or putting my life directly in danger or when you said you hated me repeatedly. I wanted to be around you. I still do." Enid smiled. "Noted. For the record, I never said I hated you." Wednesday quipped with a slight blush. "Maybe not in so many words, but I got the not so subtle hint. I just chose not to take it. The duck tape might have been a dead giveaway though." Tension started to fill the car.
Wednesday cleared her throat. "So, I told you I would tell you more when I knew more. Ever had a dislocated shoulder which has been put back into place. She has a small fracture in her elbow, so her arm is in a sling. She has a sprained ankle and may need crutches for a while, as well as a concussion. She also had a small brain bleed that has since corrected itself. Dr. Grimm is still monitoring her very closely but we're cautiously optimistic. As long as nothing changes Grimm is going to let me take her home Thursday or Friday." Wednesday said softly. Enid's face fell. "Oh ok. Oh my god Wens. That's so much. She's so little." Enid began to tear up. She reached out without thinking and put her hand on Wednesday's thigh. Wednesday flinched and shifted slightly uncomfortably. Her breaths came out a little heavier, but she didn't have Enid remove it. In fact, she put her hand over Enid's. "It could have been much worse. She's an Addams Enid. We heal quickly." Wednesday stated softly looking out the window a faint blush covering her cheeks, as she munched on the snack Enid had brought her.
Enid eased her car into the empty school parking lot. She parked in the fire lane next to the playground. "This place looks so weird without anyone here." Enid stated. Her nose was scrunched up and her brows furrowed. "Yes, it's positively apocalyptic. Now let's get this over with." Wednesday snarked exiting the car and walking to the padlocked gate. Enid followed grabbing the ladder from the back. As she approached it, it hit her she didn't have the key. "Shit Wens! I don't have my keys. I mean we can't...I could just break it but..." Enid trailed off. "For someone so smart Sinclair, you never seemed to think things through fully." Wednesday said procuring a small key from her pocket with a smirk. "Wait, you just carry keys to the school around with you?" Enid huffed. "Don't you?" Wednesday teased. "Well, yes usually I do, but like I work here. So, how do you have a key to the gate of Essex Fells Elementary School Wednesday Addams?" Enid flirted. "I have my ways." Wednesday smirked. "You got it from Principal Greenwood." Enid huffed. "Yes, I got it from Karen last night." Wednesday confirmed.
